We loved our visit to Champey. Everyone was so welcoming and it was a delight watching the students perform. We also got to play traditional instruments as well as visit their visual arts studio. I really recommend this visit. Perfect for families.

This is a lovely arts school supported by an NGO - students learn traditional dance, drawing, music and more. I found it by chance while staying at the Okay Boutique Hotel opposite and it's down a tiny alley opposite the hotel entrance. I now visit each time I'm in Cambodia. It's very authentic and not designed as a tourist attraction. That's one aspect that makes it appealing to me. I wish the hotel could promote it more as I'm sure guests would enjoy watching the morning sessions and performances to which public are invited for a small donation (I've never seen more than a handful there). Check the schedule to ensure you're there at the time the students are not in their private classes. There is a lovely gift shop selling some of the art by the students plus scarves and jewelry. There is a little stage with seating and visitors may request a tour of the other rooms and classes if convenient with the teaching schedule. It can get very hot, despite fans but the rooftop bar at the Okay Boutique Hotel opposite is close for a cool escape if needed (and fabulous views!). Students and staff are always welcoming and it's a joy to see young Cambodian artists proud of the country's traditions, busy with their studies and eager to share Cambodian culture with the world!

This school is providing youngsters the opportunity to learn and perform local cultural music, art and dance. Their performances of dance and music are well executed and the art is well designed and portrayed. We came away with a greater respect and appreciation for local cultural arts.

A great installation supported by charitable donations. Youngsters are taught drawing, dancing and music. You are treated to a demonstration of Cambodian dancing. Good stuff to purchase in the gift shop.

A friend and I visited this school of the arts as part of an architecture/arts tour when we asked to see more artists in action. It started out with a dance demonstration and performance. The warm up exercises were demonstrated and there was someone to explain about the dance characters and the meaning of the hand gestures, The children performed 2 classical dances and 1 folk dance ( the coconut dance which was wonderful). We were absolutely charmed by the children and the caliber of their performance. The dance was the main focus but then we were shown the students
Drawing/painting and lastly the musical instruments with a quick demonstration.
There was an entrance fee of 5 or 6 USD, but so worth it to support these dedicated students. (The students attend the school for free)
I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Phnom Penh,

So glad we decided to visit here. The teachers explained the Cambodian dance traditions and the children performed beautifully and enticed us to have a go,dressing us in a length of fabric to make a "skirt". We learned what the delicate hand gestures mean and how this links to traditional agricultural practices. The boys monkey dance was very amusing and clever. This academy is a charity and well worth supporting. We really enjoyed meeting the children and staff.

We visited the Champey Academy yesterday and it was the most delightful way to spend a morning (or afternoon). We were greeted warmly by our tour guide who spoke excellent English. She took us on a tour starting with the drawing class, then into the music room, before being taken through to the dance area. The girls and boys were so dedicated to their craft and you could see how much they enjoy performing. At the end of the performance, we were invited to participate. First of all, they dress you in the traditional fashion and then they perform alongside you. It was a really lovely morning with all the children and we would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Phnom Penh.

Go to their website (champeyacademy org) I am sure you will find the address there. There is a map that provides directions. It is not on a main road but tucked in behind buildings and accessed by a narrow lane.
