I discovered Bike World tours while staying with Jeff and Soe Soe at their bike world guest house. I went on the Friday night bike ride around Yangon on the first night I stayed. It was so professionally organised and we had the latest and best equipment supplied by bike world. The bike ride was 2hrs long and suitable for all standards from beginner to cycling with some of Myanmar’s top cyclists. Being a beginner I was always looked after and never felt I needed to keep up with the more experienced riders.
If you are also looking for something more challenging bike world are the organisers of the adventure triathlons in Myanmar
I also just want to mention their guest house is one of the best in Myanmar and they certainly go beyond my expectations to make me feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. They have a fantastic breakfast with home made breads and in the evening they will also make you a fabulous meal. I can highly recommend their home baked pizza and tuna salads.

Run by Soe Soe and bicycle enthusiast husband Jeff, this place has a very personal touch. We were made to feel very welcome and our hosts seemed genuinely keen to help guests get the most out of their visit to Yangon. Located in a quiet part of town, convenient to both city and airport, it was easy to access. Although we didn't manage to take one of Jeff's bicycle tours, it seems they are well organised and the Trek bikes of a high standard. Our rooms were a little shall we say basic but included fridges and Aircon. The beds were firm and comfortable. Just remember to pack your mosquito spray.

Did the Sunday morning ride in early December. Trails were mostly double track, dry and rutted. Plenty of dust and sand, but no mud. Long ride (hour plus) in a pickup to get to the trailhead.
In the group of 20 most were ex-pats, many of whom do this ride weekly. We split into a faster and a slower group, the faster being the regulars. The slower group (mine) was led by owner Jeff at what was still a pretty sprightly pace, with sweep by another guide. We stopped regularly to regroup and have tea or a swim or whatever. There were a few nice views, but the main purpose was to ride, not to sightsee. Beer at the end.
Rental bikes were in OK condition (my fork was quite sticky), there were no breakdowns. Some riders had slow-speed falls, but nothing major.
Anyone of intermediate skills and conditioning could do this ride in the dry season; I enjoyed it greatly.

Jeff and Soe Soe are both wonderful people with an amazing capacity to share their knowledge and love of the country and of biking. I went on the Friday night Yangon ride and the Sunday morning ride in the country outside Yangon. Both were great -- though I agree with others that the Sunday one is definitely more for those who a bit fitter and ready for rough-ish trails. But overall I would recommend both trips 1000%, especially in the dry season.

I realize that I'm repeating some issues already stated in other issues, but want to drive the message home--this isn't for everyone. We (four very physically fit people) had a great, tough bike ride and enjoyed it immensely. We covered a lot of ground on mostly single-track and sometimes very muddy trails through rubber tree plantations and lightly hilly rural farmland. We arranged the trip in advance and showed up on Sunday morning via taxi for bike sizing and departure at about 0645. From there, we rode in the back of a truck (about 10 of us in the covered truck bed with center facing seats) for 90 minutes including some very bad and rutted roads that made this trip sporty. When we arrived at the starting point, we had breakfast at a local village restaurant, unloaded the bikes (there were almost 20 on our trip), and departed at about 0900. The trail we did is not for those that were looking for an easy ride or are not in good physical shape. A few turned around fairly early in the trip when they realized they were in over their head with the mud and hills. We stopped several times for everyone to catch up and to make sure all made the right turns. We biked for about three hours and then ended at another village restaurant for drinks and lunch before loading up and returning to Bike World at 1430. We had a great time, but anyone who does this trip needs to know a few things: The bikes provided aren’t great by any means—they’re low end consumer clunker Trek bikes. Three had serious mechanical difficulty on our trip, but the riding staff had plenty of tools to help. The decision on route apparently wasn’t made until that morning and we were told that the previous week’s route was MUCH easier. Jeff didn’t give much info in advance of the trail, so be wary. You’re going to get VERY muddy. You’ll probably fall at least once. The single track trails are fun, but not easy because of ruts and mud—it was much more technical than I expected. So, be warned. You’ll have a blast if you’re ready, willing, and able. You’ll be VERY disappointed and probably upset if you aren’t. Do NOT take this trip lightly.

A fellow guest at the Bike World Guest House joined Jeff and the crew on their regular Friday night tour of Yangon.
John reported that the pace was good (but maybe a bit tiring for a non-regular rider). The temperature was perfect and Jeff pointed out some local landmarks along the way. John had the opportunity to stop and take some photos and got some more unusual shots as the night ride gives the chance to see sites otherwise unseen.
When they stopped for a drink they enjoyed a nice COLD Myanmar beer in a relaxing location.
If you are ever in Yangon give it a go!!

We were given to understand that the ride would be manageable for novice riders and those who did not ride regularly, but the opposite was true. The ride was hard: the terrain was rocky, and often sandy, so it was a hard slog. It gets narrow at parts, and we all fell a few times. At the end of the day, it wasn't just sore muscles but cuts and bruises. Most of the ride was also without tree cover, and the sun was brutal. In retrospect, it was probably a safety concern given how hot, strenuous and long the ride was (4hrs). Jeff is so enthusiastic, he barely recognises that he needs to slow down as our group started to fall by the wayside. It's almost like it's his trip, he isn't looking to see if he needs to adjust his pace for his paying guests. His backup rider was good, though, stopping to help the slower/weaker among us. We are fit and healthy, in our 30s to early 50s, and we still found the ride, all 24km, very tough going. If you are an experienced, mountain biker, you might enjoy this, though there's little to see along the way, so it's really just a long bike ride. If you're thinking it's a good morning ride into villages to meet locals, this isn't it. We refer to this experience as the March of Death.

Jeff is a very helpful guide and they were willing to organise a taxi to and from our hotel in the city which was a huge help and made it all very easy. Make sure your whole group is quite fit and willing to get wet and muddy for a few hours and you'll have a great time and see parts of the country that would be otherwise difficult to access.

Didn't what to expect when we rocked up at Jeff's house at 0630. After an hour in the truck and some breakfast at a village tea house we were on the trail by 0845 cycling through some beautiful villages and plantations. Jeff had us stop in at a few rubber farms and observe them rolling out the latex sheets for drying. Myanmar certainly is placing itself well to be a leading condom maker! After a visit to a very rural school, Jeff took us for a dip in the reservoir to cool off before we headed back to the village to complete the 27k loop. The trek hardtails were in excellent condition and were more than capable of dealing with the trails. It was boiling hot and the beers at the end didn't touch the sides! The trails were fairly gentle so don't expect black run single-track. But the countryside is beatiful and you will have an amazing cultural experience. You will see a lot more of the real Myanmar and for that i am very grateful to Jeff. I will never ever forget the smiling faces of the kids as we cycled past their bamboo huts and they came out screaming Mingalarbar!! Well done Jeff and Aye SoeSoe. You run a fantastic and very worthwhile enterprise and we had a terrific time .
