You can take a direct ferry to this place from Aberdeen. The beach is pretty big and beautiful. Surrounded by nature.

香港島からフェリーに乗ってラマ島に行くとき、最初に到着するところです。最近のラマ島人気で、かなり開発が進み、タイのパタヤみたいになってました。ここからハイクして15分も進むと、ラマ島らしい風景が広がります。さっさと通り過ぎたいところです。

most visitors go to lamma island from/to yung shu wanto/from Sok Kwu Wan. if you are physically-fit and have enough time, please also continue your trip from/to mo tat wan. Mo Tat Wan is an old fishing village. you can still see some houses and an old school there. Most are attracted to there by a sea view restaurant. acutally there are 2 ways connecting to sok kwu wan. 1 along a well-paved family walk loop starting from the pier or via shek pai wan 2 going up to Ling Kok Shan. it depends on your fitness and weather condition. family walk is flat and easy while ling kok shan trail is challenging and with good view. But there is only public ferry from/to aberdeen at mo tat wan pier.

Sea and landscape - peaceful - cheap - swimming - paddle-boarding and catamarans - BBQ
Mo Tat Wan was a lovely surprise. I got here after a tour to the nearby Fisherfolk's village (which I also strongly recommend). It was a Saturday, normally a crowded day in most of the beaches and attractions in Hong Kong. Yet, it was the least crowded I have seen in a while (less crowded than some Sai Kung beaches on weekdays).
WHAT IS IT: We visited the beach of Mo Tat Wan village, just by the pier. The water was clean and blue, the beach free from garbage, and just by it, a tiny place (which looks like somebody's private house :-D) where you can rent chairs (20 HKD each), tables and a barbecue to cook your own food and share with your friends.
You can barbecue and eat under the shade of the trees, which frame the amazing view of the sea and of Lamma's hills. It is idyllic!
Dogs and cats will be walking around, begging for some cuddles and some food. They are friendly and well taken care of.
The ladies running the place also sold beer (15 HKD each) and helped us out when my friend realised she forgot her bathing suit by providing her with some shorts...
There is a toilet in what I assume is the house of these ladies, and there is the option of using the shower for a 10 HKD fee.
Just nextdoor, there is restaurant where you can have a fully served meal if you don't feel like BBQing.
I would suggest this location if you are looking for an afternoon to unwind, relax and do nothing but soaking in the sun, drinking a beer and chatting with friends.
It seems like the place is not very well known yet, but apparently there are options to do standing paddle-boarding and sailing on catamarans. I am looking forward to the next reviewer telling us more about it!
