One of the four beaches that you can visit as part of the Tai Long Wan Hiking Trail in the Sai Kung East Country Park is the Tung Wan Beach, which is the fourth if starting from your hike from the trailhead at the Sai Wan Pavilion.
Starting with (1) Sai Wan Beach, (2) Ham Tin Beach and (3) Tai Wan Beach, you finally reach (4) Tung Wan Beach. The trail between the first three beaches is well trafficked, wide and easy to follow. However, past Tai Wan Beach, it eventually becomes more natural, unmarked and slightly overtaken by vegetation. Yet, it is still easy to follow, you can't get lost, eventually making your way to a small cliffside that you have to descend before crossing over a cluster of boulders and finally reaching the beach.
Tung Wan is much smaller than its three sister beaches but is a neat place to find. There is a good chance you'll have the beach all to yourself. If not, there won't likely be more than a few others there, even on busy weekends when small crowds descend upon the larger and more convenient to visit beaches you will have already passed.
The beach is photogenic with nice sand and blue waters. It is backed by hilly environs and flanked by rocky shores. There is a small freshwater pool that breaks the sand in half. Once here, you are about as isolated from the mass crowds of Hong Kong as you can find.
Note: there are no public facilities at Tung Wan Beach. Do make sure to stock up on drinks or snacks at the shops at San Wan or Ham Tin Beaches prior to continuing onward to this location.

Tai Long Wan is a pretty isolated spot, off the beaten track. Getting there can seem a bit daunting but what makes it worth it, are the 4 beautiful beaches and the very scenic hiking trails that take you up and over ruggedly beautiful, coastal hills. It’s a uniquely beautiful part of Hong Kong although for most tourists it will be too far out of the way, unless they have an extended time in Hong Kong.
The easiest starting point is the Sai Wan Pavilion. We caught a taxi here and later, at the end of the day, we took the speedboat from Ham Tin back to Sai Kung - a 30 minute roller-coaster ride on the open ocean, past dramatic caves and 140 million year old volcanic rock cliffs. Those who prefer a longer hike, can join the MacLehose Trail at the start of Stage 2. Alternately if you don't want to walk at all, you can catch a speedboat both ways.
From the Pavilion, it was a well-sign-posted, easy walk. It’s only 30-40 min to the first beach at Sai Wan and another 40-50 min to the next beach, Ham Tin. The track was fairly level and paved to Sai Wan and although there were some steeper stretches to Ham Tin, there was nothing really steep or challenging. It’s quite manageable for kids who are used to walking. These first two beaches have toilets, simple restaurants and stores where you can pick up drinks and snacks and hire surfboards and camping gear. We like the Hoi Fung Store on Ham Tin beach for lunch. It’s basic but they serve beer and wine, noodles and local food. The chicken wings in particular are really good.
Tai Wan Beach, the third beach around is much quieter, with no facilities and bigger waves that attract surfers. It’s only a 10 min flat walk around from Ham Tin so we went here for our swim after lunch.
TIPS:
* There is not a lot of shade and you can’t hire umbrellas on the beaches so take sunscreen, hats and plenty of water.
* Make sure to buy return speedboat tickets early so you don't miss out. Seats are limited and its busier on a weekend. You can go from either Sai Wan or Ham Tin but we bought ours when we stopped for lunch at Ham Tin ($150pp)
* Be aware that if the sea is rough and the wind is too strong, the boats won’t operate so you should have a Plan B and you will have to walk back out.
* A taxi from Central to the Pavilion is not cheap. It cost us over $400HKD. An uber isn’t an option because it can’t go into country parks, so it can’t take you to the pavilion. From Sai Kung back to Central it was only $250.
* It’s helpful to have a map on your phone to show the taxi driver. The pavilion is only small and relatively non-descript but it’s at the end of Sai Kung Sai Wan Rd and there’s nothing else there except a porta-loo block. In any case on a weekend, you’ll see other walkers gathering here.

Whether you choose to get here by taxi to Sai Wan Pavilion and and then hiking or by speedboat from Sai Kung, visiting here is an absolute must. For the the most part, the sand is clean and soft, the water clear and clean. On all these counts, things get better further north. Overall, this series of beaches is just stunning!

There are several impressive beaches at Tai Long Bay in the Sai Kung East Country Park coastal area. These are amongst the most beautiful and isolated beaches you will find in Hong Kong.
You'll need to allow some time to simply reach the beaches. Once you do you will rewarded with long stretches of smooth white sand, minimal rubbish and far fewer people than you will encounter at the beaches within reach of normal public transportation closer to the city. The water is clean and clear, makes for good surfing, swimming or other beach related activities with friends.
The most convenient to reach is Sai Wan Beach where you will also find a small village, lagoon area, organic farming, public toilets and convenient shop for light snacks and drinks and a couple of beach cafes. There is a camping area with BBQ pits here as well for those who want to hike in and stay overnight.
Note: The easiest way to Sai Wan Beach by foot is 2.2 km hike from Sai Wan Pavilion. There is a public bus (29R) that makes this journey from Sai Kung Village. Otherwise, you will pass through the beach as part of Stage 2 of the MacLehose Trail. It is 6.6 km from the trailhead at the High Island Reservoir East Dam. Boat rides can be arranged as well directly to/from Sai Kung Village.

Posto fantastico visitabile con una bella giornata di passeggiate nei Nuovi Territori. Il mare è splendido, i percorsi ben segnalati, baretti accoglienti dove mangiare o sorseggiare una birra. Sembra di essere in Thailandia. Si parte da Sai Kung.

Loin des plages bondées de Hong Kong. On prend un bateau à Sai kung pendant 30min et on arrive sur cette jolie plage de sable fin. Ca vaut le coup d oeil.

Having grown up in Sai Kung, I feel particularly attached to this amazing beach. It's grown in popularity over the years and gets a lot more crowded, but it's worth it. I usually get there from Sai Kung town by bus and then taxi to 'the pagoda' in Sai Kung Country Park. From there it's a 45 min 'hike' to Sai Wan beach, also beautiful. And then another 45-1 hour over the headland to Tai Long Wan. Treat yourself to a breathtaking boat ride back to Sai Kung (20-30 min). Totes worth it.

All you need to do is go to Hoi Fun Store/ Cafe on the beach and ask to rent a tent. I'm not sure about the price.

Hi! Does anyone know how much it costs to get a boat from Sai Kung to Tai Long Wan for 6 adults and 2 kids? We're hoping to go next week to take our grandfather back to where he was born!

Hi just noticed your post I know its late now but the boat trip is anything from $130 to $180 each way.
Interested to know your grandfather is from Tai Long, as my grandfather is from there too. We are one of the "Lai" in the village and my uncle owns the cafe on the beach.

First you need to travel to Sai Kung.
1)You can get the minibus from Ladies Market, at the end,
there is a minibus that takes you straight to Sai Kung.
2) Get MTR to Rainbow and then get the minibus to Sai Kung.
When you get to Sai Kung, you can go to the pier and ask one of the stores for price to Tai Long or you can get a bus and hike in.
