Hi If time permits it is better to keep luggage at hotel as after reaching Lantau and after cable car you need to walk like 1.5 mile approx and the steps at Big Buddha are stiff. Also 3 to 5 Sept 2019 the cable care is under maintenance.

There are few choices, cable car 🚡, bus 🚌 and Uber or taxi 🚖. All available from Tung Chung bus terminal and metro station 🚉

You can go by public bus. They are quite frequent.

You can go by Ferry very easy and when at Lantau catch the bus direct to Big Buddha and cable car or you can get the cable car at the other end on Hong Kong island

Take a ride down to Tai O fishing village. Well worth a look. Also Triple Lanterns Cafe.

I don't know that it will be easy to do too much with a short layover. Probably just around Lantau island is safer

It would cost you approximately 300HKD per person for round trip in a standard cabin. There are other options of choosing what type of cable car you want to opt for. It would be good if you can atleast spend 4-5hrs there, so that you can visit all places without any hurry. Carrying money is completely dependent on you. Because there are lot of shops, restaurants on top and if you are a shopaholic or foodie, its better to carry some extra cash. However most of them accept all types of credit cards & Forex cards.
