Not as great as we thought

Stopped here as we were exhausted on our first night and didn’t want to walk any further! There’s a good atmosphere and it was well run. The satay was not the best as it was stringy and fatty and the chicken didn’t feel good quality. The naan was nice, but greasy, the jug of beer was good and we ordered a second. Overall not too disappointed, there did look to be better stalls inside the hawker market. One real plus though was the cleanliness of the toilets, they were really clean, some of the best I’ve seen. There is a note on the table asking diners to clean up, which we found the majority didn’t, which was rude and caused the stall holders more work.

We were expecting the most amazing satay from all the awesome reviews but found the satay tough and only a few pieces of meat on each stick. The queue was so long to order, then the wait for our serve was an hour. Quite expensive at $28 for beef, chicken and mutton. You can find nicer satay in the other hawkers.

Not worth the hype.....

Had been told this is a must of visiting Singapore so off we went....
Very pushy stall holders when there is nowhere to sit to enjoy food.... actual food is ok nothing special and for heavens sake if you pay cash do not expect any change
Maybe losing it's touch but been there done that!!

Tasty food and great atmosphere! Well worth a visit for reasonably priced authentic food. Wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. Remember to bring some little wipes as your hands will be covered in Satay sauce afterwards!

Still rough, and ready. Although not as many Satay sellers as before.
Still, I enjoyed the hussle and bussle and got to eat my favourite asian dish. Chicken Feet!!

A must do when in Singapore

Went to Chinatown twice and both times enjoyed reasonably priced drinks and excellent meals delivered quickly by friendly staff. Plenty to do see and do with all the stalls, plenty of food to choose from, some places had music. Very interesting and enjoyable. Stay away from the Durian stalls though!!

Great atmosphere and for a first time Singapore visit it was fun! Sitting outside, soaking up the hustle & bustle of the street vendors with their smoking satay bbq's was an enjoyable experience. We had a mixed set of skewers (beef/mutton, chicken & prawn + rice cakes) Service was fast and efficient. (make sure you bring your own serviettes/wipes as there are no complimentary ones and hawkers go table to table selling small packs). Be prepared for vendors to be actively approaching you for business.

Late night Satay run

Late night visit after arriving in Singapore. There wasn’t much place open, and Satay street was still bustling with people at 10p. Most of the inside shops closed but we had some delicious satay chicken and shrimps along the street.

Very long wait

We were really excited to eat here on our first night in Singapore but were actually quite disappointed.
At 7 pm this street is closed to traffic and tables and chairs are set up but this turned into an unruly scrum with people grabbing seats and tables and we really didn’t like the atmosphere thus generated.
We saw the queue for Satay stall 7 & 8 so thought if there is a big queue it must be good. After waiting about ten mins we placed our order and were given an order slip and told to come back in 20 mins when we would only have to “wait five mins” to collect our orde We went back after 25 mins and were told to join a huge queue of 35 people waiting for the orders they had already placed. Nearly an HOUR later we finally get to the front of the queue and receive our order. Still no tables on the street but we found one in the food centre. The Satay was OK but nothing special. But what was really bad was the total waiting time of an hour and a quarter from placing to receiving our order - if you can’t handle the number of orders then DON’T keep taking new orders and telling people they’ll only have to wait five mins when they come back to collect their order because you are LYING.
Come to Satay Street to have a look and take some pictures but don’t bother to eat here unless you like being lied to and queuing for at least an hour.
However, the food centre next to Satay st looked really good.
