I don't know what Mauricio will charge but he is well worth the cost. If he thinks another winery may be better than the one you have suggested he may discuss your choice with you. We found him to be very well informed with the Santiago city and countryside.

Hi Mike, You can either book a hotel in Santiago or possibly smaller places out in the wine areas. The Maipo Valley (south of Santiago) and the Casablanca Valley (northwest of town) are both excellent regions and about an hour from Santiago. You could stay in town (Santiago) near restaurants, shopping, etc. and easily take a tour two consecutive days to both regions. I did this and it was a breeze. If you want to venture further afield to the Colchagua Valley, it is about a 2 1/2-3 hour ride. You may spend a couple of days in Santiago to visit the Maipo and Casablanca Valleys, then either plan on a day with much more of a ride, or identify a place in the Colchagua Valley. It is also only a 45 minute flight over the Andes to Mendoza, which has nice wine as well.

You can easily do this as a day trip from Santiago , either rent a car or use a tour company . You can see Valparaiso and nearby Vina del Mar ( just a tourist resort although there is a museum there ) . We most enjoyed the beautifully located fishing village of Quintay with its whaling station museum and coastal scenery just a bit further down south . I heard about penguins but I think they are further away. If you take a tour do a wine tasting en route as its very close to the road down . They're very strict about drinking + driving !
