This was my favorite area of Quito. The buildings were amazing, the cathedrals stunning, and the overall look of the area was just gorgeous! People are friendly and the streets lively, bustling during the days filled with vendors, locals and tourists.

Mittelpunkt der Erde - liegt auf 2.850 m - "Atem-Schwierigkeiten" lassen sich nicht vermeiden. Unbedingt zum "Mitad del Mundo" und in die Altstadt mit den vielen Kirchen. Auch eine Cable Car Fahrt auf einen der Gipfel (4.100 m ) ist ein Erlebnis und für viele Menschen wahrscheinlich die erste und einzige Möglichkeit auf dieser Höhe einen "Spaziergang" zu machen.

Unesco world heritage site, for many good reasons. The architecture from colonial times is fascinating, especially the churches and monasteries. Streets have some moderate inclines, so with altitude, take your time strolling. Police/security presence is noticeable and gives a good sense of personal safety. Numerous street hawkers selling all types of goods, but they don't pester the tourists.

A very pleasant area to stroll around, well daytime at least. Many churches and old buildings to admire, Grand Plaza etc and particularly so one afternoon with a ceremony, dress uniforms on horseback and band in front of the Palacio de Carondelet. Less attractive at night as it is very quiet although we had no issues strolling from our local hotel to restaurants.

We followed the Lonely Planet walking tour. Starting at Grande Plaza we meandered backwards and forwards through the streets. Stopping off at churches, museums and coffee places. If you are in Quito don’t miss the opportunity to visit this area.

We stayed for a total of 3 nights on either side of our amazing trip to Galapagos Islands and we were very
glad we did. The old town area is very large with so many beautiful original Spanish Colonial buildings
churches and plazas with amazing history. There are so many great restaurants and bars too with amazing
views. The altitude may make you short of breath on walking up hill at first but the views at this altitude - 9000ft making it the highest capital in the world) are splendid.

e' molto bello con una serie di monumenti interessanti e chiese di grande oregio, piuttosto caotico per i continui questuanti, i venditori ambulanti e i senzatetto , pieno di ristorantini e bar ma alcuni piuttosto sporchi

Hi Nathan from Quito to Madrid or from Quito to Amsterdam I think are the cheaper options at least there are daily flights to there, you can find flights from from 500 USD may be a little bit less if you are lucky and find a promotion, and in average I think they cost around 650

Hi Dan we are in Quito for 3 days prior to a Galapagos tour but are unsure about whether to stay in the Old Town area or closer to the Hotel we will start out tour. We love walking wherever possible but happy to get transport to places like the Middle of World /Cable Car etc. any advice. Thank-you

I recommend staying in the old town, there are many fabulous churches to visit and lots of great walking through the historic centre.

There is a church in every block in old town. Most of them have wonderful art inside. They usually open for service and they usually have a sign at the door for the open hours for tourists.

The tour bus has a route specified by the city of Quito. You can take the city tour in the morning or at night. The points of sale is in Boulevar Naciones Unidas | Address: Av. Naciones Unidas y Shyris, La Carolina’s park, North. or
El Quinde Visitors Center | Address: Venezuela Street and Espejo Street (corner). Located in downtown front of Plaza Grande.
The pick up at 9:00 am in Boulevar Naciones Unidas

As an older couple we would like a private room with ensuite bath but a reviewer said it smelled of raw sewage and never had hot water??? We would stay Nov. 1 to Jan. 4 (65 nights). We are in the initial stages of a 4-month tour plan where we would arrive:
Oct 6-7 Travel to Guayaquil-1 night on a plane-ugh
Oct 7-13 Stay in Guayaquil-7 nights
Oct. 14-21 Galapagos tour-8 nights
Oct. 22-28 Guayaquil-7 nights
Oct. 29-31-Manchu Pinchu tour-3 nights
Nov. 1-Jan. 4-Cuenca- 65 nights
Jan. 5-Feb. 1- Quito-33 nights
Feb. 2-Back to the US
The suite would be nice but the smell and tiles would not be acceptable. Has that been fixed? What would be the cost of the period above? Can you help with connections between the cities? Please note that we would have to book and find all the above available so days may vary somewhat. Looking forward to your answer we are.
