Political building beyond its time! Interesting structure that due to political winds became a white elephant before becoming functional. Just observed it from the highway as our guide was very sensitive to Ecuador’s politics.

Es lamentable que se haya desmantelado la UNASUR, que se procedió a quitar el nombre Nestor Carlos Kirchner y retirar también su estatua del edificio. Pero uno se ilusiona en la conversión en una Universidad Indígena..

Sede do Secretariado da Unasul, fica ao lado da Cidade Metade do Mundo e, uma vez que se está aí, merece uma foto pela arquitetura arrojada do prédio.

Nothing much to see here.
Small souvenir shop inside, the architecture from outside is good for photo but as this is alongside La Mitad del Mundo, you might as well just walk across for the photos.
Not sure this qualifies as a touristy place.

This building has a very strange architecture. It was built by the request of Mr. Rafael Correa, former president of Ecuador, to house the political and economical representations of several Latin American countries involved in the socialist revolution that the president of Venezuela Hugo Chaves started some time ago. Its construction was very expensive. Its design is strange. The building is now obsolete as most Latin American countries have abandoned or are not interested in UNASUR. Its architecture is interesting but it is not functional. This is a building that will likely get abandoned very soon and unfortunately, it is very unlikely that will have any useful use. It seems that the Ecuadorian government wasted a lot of money on this massive structure.
There are some simple pools in the first floor. It has a mediocre sculpture of an Argentinian president. You cannot visit the building's interior. You will see it on the left side of the "Mitad del Mundo" site entrance. You do not have to pay to see this place. If you have time, you can visit its grounds.
The building is a symbol of a the corruption and disorganization that characterizes some governments around the world.

This very expensive building was erected for meetings of the South American countries to have their business and occasional meetings in. I don’t consider this a tourist attraction at all. It sits adjacent to the Mitad del Mundo monument.

El edificio tiene un diseño interesante pero su costo fue impresionantemente alto y está destinada para la UNASUR que no tiene desde hace más de seis meses, nadie trabajando ahí.

hi, any of you know if the building is open to visits all days, and the opening hours? i have a tour to middle of the world but i suspect they are not going to visit this building (at least not sure if we are going inside the place) . i have a free half Sunday and a free Monday, so i would do it. thanks in advance
