Filled with exceptional Romanian art: an entire wall of Grigorescu, entire rooms of Iser, dozens of Tonitza, Ciucurencu but no marketing idea behind. One could learn a lot about Romanian painters if provided with the necessary guidance: locals and foreigners. The paintings are put in an order known probably only to the art critics with no highlights, no special guidance. You are not offered an audio guide and the walk around is a bit strange to say the least. Anyway, it is a place to visit if you want to spend 2 quality hours. And like most interesting things in Bucharest, is very poorly marketed and lies in the open as a hidden gem.

Il est surprenant qu'un tel musée soit quasiment vide de visiteurs alors qu'il contient des œuvres de premiers plans, notamment dans sa partie concernant l'Europe Occidentale. Après des tableaux italiens (Le Tintoret), espagnols (El Greco), allemands (Cranac l'ancien), flamands (Rubens et Brueghel l'ancien) et hollandais (école de Rembrandt), la visite se termine en beauté par des œuvres françaises (Signac, Courbet, Sisley, Pissarro, Renoir, Camille Claudel, Rodin...), disposées dans de très belles salles de cet ancien palais royal. A la descente : escalier monumental !

We visited the Gallery of European Art on 1st of March. The entrance costs 15 Lei. Pleasant experience, El Greco, Rodin, Monet and Rembrandt among the artists.

Questo museo d'arte è ospitato in un'ala dell'ex Palazzo Reale, accanto a Plata Revolutiei e di fronte all'Ateneo Romeno.
Ha una parte dedicata all'arte nazionale e una parte dedicata ai grandi maestri europei.
Il palazzo fu costruito tra il 1812 e il 1815, la facciata è del 1930 circa.

This is unusual as being a gallery which is open Mondays & Tuesdays. It is organised not by the artist but by the person who collected the items. It offers a good introduction to Romanian art. The temporary exhibitions are good. Would recommend a visit to the lapidorium in the basement.

This is a huge museum, get ready to visit the two buildings, 4 to 5 floors in each building, plan to spend few hours there. I would say 4 to 5 hours if you want to see everything and take pictures.
What is interesting is that visitors will be able to compare European art to Romanian art starting the 15th century till now.
There is a lot of religious painting and if you haven't been to a European museum you will be surprised by the different interpretations of the same paintings both in oriental and occidental church and in the different eras.
It is a must visit and if you go there even if you don't want to visit all the floors ( each floor is a century) I would say it is worth it to visit 2 floors from each building to be able to make the comparison

Notice that there's no cafeteria in the museum, so get prepared before. You can go outside in the middle, cross the street and get something to eat and drink and then come back inside.
So:
The museum has a good collection of paintings and small sculptures, mainly from
Romanian artists.
I was there almost alone most of the time and it's a big museum (visited from the morning to the noon). You can be there quietly and with no one around you.
The art pieces are presented nice, there's an informative data of each room or collection and it's Romanian connection.
It was really nice to explore that art and to have pleasant hours watching it all.
Spent there more than two hours.

A massive and interesting collection of scupture and paintings. We only had time to visit the Romanian art section. We intended visiting the International art section but the Gallery is closed on a Mon. Well worth a visit

Large museum in he heart of Bucharest. Great collection of the most known Romanian painters and sculptors. Worth a visit. Take the time and have a chat with the guides walking around, they are very knowledgeable.

If you are in the area please stop in. They have many great artists and it is cheap to get in. It is across from the history and was the home of carol 1.
