Loved the trail! We biked in extreme heat and the bike path offered a lot of shade making the experience super fun. Many streams and Cheshire Reservoir along the path added a lot of interest and beauty. There are benches and picnic areas along the trail making it a good place for family outings. The path is nearly flat, wide and very smooth so biking is super easy for all types of users. There is an abundant parking and additional access points along the trail. We parked at the head on US 7 Rt 8 Connector Rd where we located the only restroom along the trail. We also stopped at Whitney's Farm for lunch - fresh salads and sandwiches, a popular spot for bikers. Overall a great experience.

This rail trail has it all. It has ample parking, bathrooms at the trail head, and gorgeous scenery. My phone took me right to the parking lot near the intersection of Berkshire Mall Rd and Cheshire Rd.
The trail is beautifully maintained. I biked it for 4 miles before turning back towards the parking lot. It runs straight and flat, an easy ride. As one approaches the three mile mark, a long narrow lake opens up on one’s left with incredible views of the mountain ridge running parallel to the trail.

The Ashuwillticook rail trail starts near Pittsfield, Ma., the trail leads thru woods, reservoir and rivers. Trails are very well "groomed" clean and has many places to stop and have picnics, bathrooms and passes thru Cheshire, ice cream/food shop!
The woods are all around and also passes thru wetlands and river w/ small falls, ending at Adams, where coffee shops and food shops! The Berkshire Visitors Center is also a good place to stop at this trail end for breaks/bathroom! The view at this end one can view the mountains and Mt.Graylock!

I have given the trail section that starts by the entrance to the mall a poor rating, not for the trail itself but for the horrible, disgusting dog owners who either let their dog defacate on the trail itself or "pick up" after it only to leave the poop bags along the trail. If you can't be mindful of others who use the trail year round, stay in your yards.
Btw, I am a dog owner and have always picked up after him and disposed of the waste if there is a designated trash receptical nearby or I will dispose of at home.
No excuses...

We hiked a very pretty section of this rail trail, from Cheshire (starting at a parking lot off Church Street) south in the direction of Pittsfield, for about 3.5 miles (7 miles roundtrip). At end of this section was the Whitney Farm Market. This section took us along the Cheshire Reservoir, with beautiful water views. The trail is flat, wide and in great condition, nicely paved with a well-maintained pebble shoulder on each side and many nice benches to sit along the way. From Cheshire, hiking the rail trail was an easy way to get some exercise and beautiful scenery without having to travel far. There were only few people walking or biking there. The only minor drawback is the sound of road traffic near a part of the trail.

well paved trail and several parking areas to get on the trail or to enter a kayak or boat into the water. Lovely native shrubs and trees border the trail.

My wife and I had a nice 6 mile walk (3 miles out and back from Cheshire) along the rail trail. While an overcast day, the trail was still being used by many bikers and walkers. A relaxing way to spend part of the afternoon.

This is a great trail, this time we hiked and only did part of it we will be back with our bikes and complete the trail. This is the best maintained rail trail I have been on, plenty of shade on a hot day, great scenery along the way. Well worth your time to get some fresh air and exercise

This is the Rolls Royce of rail trails. Since our last visit the entire trail has been repaved and it is fabulous. The path is uniformly 10ft wide with a gravel shoulder on each side. There are restrooms along the way and the road crossings are uniform and well marked. Great scenery including ponds, a river and marshy areas for bird watching. All in all a great place to visit on foot, bike, skates...anything, just go!

My husband and I drove out in the Fall to leaf peep and also to do the bike path. We started in Lanesboro and ended in Adams and back. My husband biked the 22 miles round trip, I walked the bike path for 1 hour and 10 mins and back and we met back at the parking lot.
There is a parking lot in Lanesboro, that has a port o potty at the trail head. We ended up parking up the hill, as the lot was crowded. Its an old mall, so plenty of people parked there and then walked/biked to the trail head.
Beautiful trail well maintained. The foliage was beautiful, walked an biked by water/ponds/lakes etc. About 1 hour in I hit the larger parking lot and lake where there were benches etc. There are also benches on the path as well.
Great day trip and will do so again.

Is the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail finally completed? We biked the southern portion of the trail starting in Lanesboro in August 2020 and the Adams section of the trail was still under construction. We are planning to bike the trail in early June 2021.

The northern end of the trail is reported to be under construction as of June 2020, but there is no info on when the construction (repaving?) was or is to be completed. Is the construction complete? If not, when is it scheduled to be open again?

We actually brought our own bikes, but did talk to some people who rented from Village Bike Rentals, and were very happy. It is located in Adams, close to the trail.

There are numerous places along the trail where you can swim. The trail currently ends in Adams. Adams and North Adams are two different towns.

There are two bike rental shops, Berkshire Outfitters on the Cheshire Adams line and a new one whose name I don't know in downtown, 2 doors down feom the Subway Sandwich Shop. Both are on Rt. 8.
