Tuesday 14th June we were on a day tour to Kotor from Dubrovnik. We visited this Catholic Church during our walk around the Old Town. It is located Ulica 1, a short stroll off Square of Arms
The church was built in the 17th century on the site of a former Benedictine Monastery. From the outside it is an ordinary stone brick building with an apex roof and a large two part brown entrance door with a circular window above it.
There is such a contrast between the simple exterior and the grandeur of the inside. The most dominant feature is the main altar, the largest and grandest of the four marble altars in the Church.
A large ornate tabernacle is at it's centre and above that is a silver icon. They are surrounded by statues and angels, we were informed that there were thirty-three angels in total on the main altar, we did not check this out. They are all flanked by a red marble pillar on either side. It alll stands in front of a large golden coloured marble curtain which is held by two angels on the top of the altar.
The other three smaller altars are ornate and beautiful, not on same scale as the main one. They are definitely worth stopping at to have a look while walking around the Church.
Paintings of religious scenes, saints adorn the walls along with more statues.
Something else that cannot be overlooked is the latticed wooden ceiling with a painting of St Clare in the centre with a smaller painting of other holy people, at each corner.
We sat for a short while on one of the wooden pews to look and admire the wonderful surroundings. Also to appreciate the serenity and sanctity of the beautiful atmospheric old Church.
There is no admission fee here and we was a notice advising that Holy Mass is held here every Sunday at 6:00pm.

Another of the many small churches that are in Kotor. The dominant feature of this church is undoubtedly the baroque altar decorated with statues of St. Clare and St. Francis. If you pass by, be sure to check it out.

The outside of this little church is quite plane so one can pass it buy. But it would be a pity, as the interior is beautiful and definitely worth a visit.

I campanili sono visibili dalla parte della Porta del Fiume, in un contesto più verde rispetto al resto della città vecchia e vicinissimi alla guglia della chiesa di San Nicola. Da fotografare.

Lugar tranquilo que parecía pasar totalmente desapercibido por el resto de turistas. Fue el único sitio en el que pudimos estar completamente solos. No necesita más de 10 minutos para ver todo lo que tiene que ofrecer.

For being such a small church, The Church of St. Clare is filled with so many beautiful things. It is a feast for the eyes.
