Last time we were there, we spent about 4-5 hours there, even though the conservatories were closed. We walked about 5 miles around some of the trails and the outdoor gardens. There's a kid's garden, a few large central gardens, a bonsai garden, and lots of trails outside. There's also a picnic area. Inside there are I believe 3 conservatories. We hope to go back this weekend to see those and to take another trail walk. It's only $5 to park for the whole day. Obviously what plants are in bloom are going to depend on the time of year, but they have a lot of plants and flowers that bloom all spring and summer long. It's a beautiful place. If you don't intend to use the trails, it probably would only take 1-2 hours walking around the main "attractions" if you take your time.

Beautiful place, colorful I will back. It was a great day with temp in the 60s.. layout was great.. right off the highways and close to hotels

Not Worth It

Not worth it. Not much to see. The parking should just be free to all since there's nothing much to see. I paid $5 for all day pass but it took me only 30 minutes there.

Beautiful gardens to stroll, trails to walk, and art to enjoy!

Met a friend to spend some time together catching up. It was only my second visit, and many years since my first visit. Under the aegis of the University of Michigan, admission is free, so it begs for more frequent visits to enjoy the conservatory and the gardens at various times of the year. The Conservatory comprises a Tropical House, a Temperate House, and a Desert House. We saw some very unusual cacti and other plants, including "living stone" plants!! We strolled outdoors through the Perennial Garden, the Children's Garden, and more, including some wooded trails. Thoroughly enjoyed the art installed throughout the gardens. If you like nature art, check out the exhibit inside the Visitor Center and the mosaic art outside the west entrance. Hope to return soon!

Due to COVID the buildings are closed on Friday (the day we went), which limits what guests can see to the trails.

That said, we enjoyed walking the trails for an hour and taking in nature.

I would defiantly go back.

A MUST SEE!

Matthei is both a garden and an arboretum. The garden is very nice, not large, and it includes both a good bonsai collection and an interesting herb garden. The trails are not long and offer a good selection of native trees, and there is a very pretty trout stream running through the park.

There are many smaller themed gardens that make up this 1-2 hour attraction including prarie, coastal, perennial, medicinal, rock, etc. Loved the bonsai garden and the three indoor biomes (tropical, temperate, and desert). The showiest flowers are in the gateway and children's gardens, and there's even a delightful, child sized hedge maze!

Nice conservatory with three separate houses for tropical, temperate and arid plants. A variety of gardens to explore including bonsai, perennials and great lakes gardens including dunes and prairies. Nature trails for nice hikes/walks and these are open until sunset. Conservatory and gardens close around four. There is a nominal parking fee. A nice place to visit if in the area.

Wonderful UM botanical garden close to U of Michigan campus - not huge so an hour or more is perfect timing- Conservatory, formal gardens, walking paths too. COVID PROTOCOLS followed in doors- great staff- beautiful flowers- fun sculpture exhibit too now

Beautiful garden and natural area in Ann Arbor. We took a very long walk along the lovely nature trails; through forests, by streams and lakes, really fun. It was a warm sunny fall day when we visited but there was plenty of shade along the trails. Impressive botanical garden inside too. Great place to spend a couple hours out in nature.
