Large, beautiful and interesting botanical garden with beautiful sea views. There are many different plants from all over the world, beautiful flower beds, a picturesque Japanese garden, a bamboo grove, a fish pond. There are gazebos and recreational shops. We've been here twice in May and September both times we really enjoyed it. In spring, the garden drowns in flowers. A great place for relaxing and beautiful photo shoots.
From Batumi, there is bus number 15 and routes 31 and 40.

Visiting the Batumi Botanical Garden in June was an unforgettable experience. Nestled near the Green Cape in Batumi, Georgia, the garden is a true haven for nature lovers. The diversity of plant species from various climatic regions around the world is simply astounding.
The garden's serene paths provided the perfect setting for a peaceful walk. I spent hours capturing the beauty of the flora with my camera. Each section of the garden, representing different regions of the world, offered unique and picturesque scenes.
Learning about the different plant species was both fun and educational. The garden is divided into several sections, each showcasing plants from regions like East Asia, North America, New Zealand, South America, the Himalayas, the Mediterranean, and the Caucasian Humid Subtropics. Some of my favorites included the Japanese camellias and bamboos in the East Asia section, and the exotic palms and cacti in the South America section.
The garden boasts over 2,000 different plant species. Here are some notable sections:
- East Asia: Japanese camellias and bamboos.
- North America: Redwoods and magnolias.
- New Zealand: Unique ferns and conifers.
- South America: Exotic palms and cacti.
- Himalayas: Rhododendrons and other alpine plants.
- Mediterranean: Olive trees, cypresses, and lavender.
- Caucasian Humid Subtropics: Native species like Calchic boxwood and Caucasian fir.
Entry Fee and Buggy Rides
The entry fee was quite reasonable:
- Tourists: 20 GEL
- Georgian Citizens: 10 GEL
- Children (under 6 years) : Free
For a more comfortable exploration, l opted for a buggy ride, which cost 20 GEL one way per person. It was a great way to cover more ground without getting too tired.
Camping Rates
Although we didn't camp, the garden offers special rates for those interested:
- Domestic Tourists: 25 GEL
- Foreign Tourists: 50 GEL
The garden is open daily from 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM, making it easy to plan a visit.
Overall, my trip to the Batumi Botanical Garden was a delightful blend of relaxation, education, and natural beauty.

The taxi dropped us off at the lower entrance and that’s how the nightmare began…
We paid 30 GEL for 6 people including two children and asked about access for people with disabilities. They told us it was possible to hire a car/transport after walking uo “a bit”.
1. It was not a short walk and it was quite steep for my mother with disability and a 3 year old child. In the result, the whole family had to stop and sit on a bench
2. I had to go up myself and get the transport sorted for my mother and family members and it was a very stressful experience.
While the lady (the cashier) tried to help, the drivers were not helpful at all. Appallingly, I was even ridiculed by one of the drivers for wanting a special treatment for my mom who has RA!
Another driver suggested “let all the family walk 300 metres up and then we go and fetch your mother”. I ignored him and waited patiently until the third person , a guy called Padri , arrived and he agreed to go down and fetch the whole family.
I hired the whole car (7 seats) and paid 70 GEL, even if there were only 6 of us in total including a toddler. While we were downstairs to pick up my family, I saw another family struggling like we did. Two ladies: a mother and a grandma , with three children , looked desperate, we had space for two people in the car, but the driver just refused to help any of them.
It was really grotesque . I tried to reason with him to try and help the older lady at least, but it was absolutely useless. He yelled at me saying he will lose his job if he helps them and takes her up although I did show him my tickets covered space for 7 people..
Needless to say the whole botanical experience got ruined by that employee’s fear of the management and breaking their unfair rules..
I told him this whole organisation was quite poor and they needed to think about people with disabilities and he should have acted as a human in the first place. It didn’t help. He kept quoting the rules , telling me off for challenging him etc.
In all honesty, I understand it’s not the employee’s full personal fault, after all it’s not his responsibility to write and rethink the policy of the Botanical Gardens neither he must ensure the transport is supplied at the bottom site entrance from the start. He was only a driver and he would have helped if the overall policy of the place was different.
I do blame it on the management of the Gardens, Mr. Irakliy Archaya who has been in charge since 2016 or so.. According to the Gardens website, the guy is a lawyer, but it looks like he did nothing to alleviate people’s lives or concerns about the lack of access.
I honestly feel Batumi’s botanical gardens should not be advertised as a tourist attraction. It cannot provide the bare minimum for people with special needs including children.
Never going to that place again. Very bad experience. Poor management and a waste of taxpayer’s money. Avoid if you have disability or if you sympathise with the cause.

I recommend visiting this place. The park is huge, the air is clean and the sea view. You can take minibuses around the garden, but we walked. Plan your trip here for at least half a day

Taxis can be taken to the "circle" near the entrance to the park. Next you buy a ticket GEL 20 entrance and climb about 300 meters up and there you can for GEL 10 take an electric car and drive to the final stop and return on foot. By the way, at the end of the park there is the only cafe that seems oriented purely for tourists and with poor quality dishes. Prices are like in the city, but eat there I do not advise not to clobber yourself with wonderful experiences of Georgian cuisine elsewhere.
On the way back, there's an altitude difference, but it's not big. They say you can get lost - yes, you can if you step off the main road to the side. There are two springs along the way and you can drink.
Very good impressions overall. So much work every day! It rained recently and looks like it washed a tree. Kids counted the rings - 134 rings!!! And it's not the biggest tree! Go with the children , take pictures with great sea views and against the background of palm groves )) if there is not enough adrenaline - you can ride a ZIP over the abyss and shorten the path from above ))

Very beautiful everything - and the road to the destination, and the mushy rocks, and the drills on the streams and rivers, and the entourage rope through one of them. The waterfall, of course, is tin. I thought I'd be brought to the observation deck (I took a "tour" and wore slingbacks), and there was an uphill climb on wet clay after the rain and roots vertical 2 km, and an even scarier descent. With children, elderly, unprepared and prone to panic descending from a height (like me) - you have to think carefully before going, or choose a route not to a waterfall but to a lake, it is gentler and shorter. Anyone else or overcoming phobias - highly recommended!
And the beauty, of course, is indescribable - mountains, mountains, mountain rivers

A striking beauty botanical garden, very clean and neat. There are lots of places to relax, lots of benches, there are latrines, only one minus - constantly running electric cars, because of them you had to constantly shuffle at the edge of the path.

I would say that winter is not going to be great actually. We went in March and the flowers were starting to come out and the trees were just starting to look nice.
You will get sone nice views, don’t get me wrong, but the gardens themselves probably won’t be spectacular between November and mid March.

Is there a beach in the botanical garden or just near it outside?
เขียนเมื่อ 19 สิงหาคม 2018
There are 2 beaches one almost on the teritory of the gardens just across the railtracks and one called green cape i should advise to go there it's only 300m walking from the lower entrance. This beach has beachchairs, parasols, restaurant and even free wifi. Entrance is free.

We are going to visit Batumi between April 17 and 22.
Are the botanical gardens open on these days? What hours?
How do we get there from Batumi downtown?
Are the gardens green during this period?
Are there flowers in bloom?
