Its a local market. We can buy daily needs and clothings. Pricings are not much higher and not much cheaper. Never expected high quality products from there.

The Connemara Market which was once named Palayam Market or Cantonment Market was renovated and the Saphalyam complex also has become a part of it now. The market was initially established by The Maharaja of Travancore Sri Uthram Thirunal in 1857 AD and when the arched gate was later inagurated in 1888 AD by Sir Robert Bourke it was renamed as Connemara. Items from eletronics to food stuff are available here and the small shops in the Saphalyam Complex is also now a part of the Connemara Market. Moderately crowded during normal days but will be fully crowded on festive season and weekends. I have bought a memory card from a shop in the market and the price seems to be bit lower than that of shops outside. The market ideal for buying most of the essential items in the heart of the city.

I would like to write a review of this place becuase this place has a lot of Historic importance. It used to be known as the "Cantonment" market. The Palayam Juma Mosque, St. Joseph’s Latin Cathedral (Palayam Palli) and a temple of Lord Ganesh are situated close to each other. The mosque and a temple are side by side, The co-existence of these three centers of worship of different religions is quite unique. Connemara Market (Palayam Market) was established by Sir Connemara, Governor Of Madras. The recently renovated Market has merged with the Saphalyam Complex adjacent to it. It was established during 1857, when Sri Uthradom Thirunal was the Maharja of Travancore to cater the Army. The Arched Gate of the Market was built later and was inaugurated by Sir Robert Bourke, 1st Baron Connemara, Governor of Madras Presidency. In 1888 the market was named as Connemara to please Bourke

Popularly called Palayam market. The arched entrance and the wall indicate something about the past and it is true. It is one of the oldest markets in this part of the countrya 19th century market which originally was created for meeting the needs of the army! It got itts English name from the Britisher who inaugurated it. Located at sort of cente of the city, it caters to the needs of different types of buyers-vegetables, fruits, dreass etc etc. There is a new pay and park facility in the north western side of the market gate which provides convenience to those who drive through MG Road to this place. It has been spruced up recently and a visit is enjyable.

Connemara Market is famous for Fish & Vegetables. Best for people who like to walk in crowds and bargain for prices. This is a very oldest market in Kerala. There are hawkers selling many other articles in this market. Car parking available near the market at nominal rates.
