I've been coming to Bali for about 10 years as a holiday from business in Singapore. I found Made Chole (Mad-day Cho-lay) thru friends several years ago, and now he has his own company called Bali Design Your Own Tour.
Where to start? Made charges $25 USD to pick you up at the airport (this is currently about 20% below others). He will come to your hotel each morning at your appointed time, and drive you on the winding roads of Bali to see temples, coffee and tea plantations, rice terraces, butterfly museums - you name it, he knows about it. Made is an exemplary driver (he pulled over and stopped the car when his cell phone rang) - something you want on the narrow roads with all manner of vehicles and animals. The last time I was there, he drove myself (middle aged USA lady) and my 85 year young Mother in Law all over the island. His website has many options from which to choose, and he is priced at or below his competitors.
The reasons to use Bali Design Your Own Tours versus other Tour Operators: Made goes above and beyond. I was ill one day, and texted him to ask if he could plan to just escort my 85 year old MIL without me along that day. He texted back and said absolutely, and he was coming with medicine. No kidding - 20 minutes later he was at my hotel on the outskirts of Ubud with anti-nausea / anti-diarrhea meds and fresh bananas and bottled water. Took my MIL and she had a great day - and I was able to recover and not worry about her.
Made also takes care of ex-pat properties in his spare time - wealthy people from all over the world trust him with keys to their vacation homes. He is well spoken, courteous, and has a great vehicle (at last writing, it was an a/c Toyota Land Cruiser). He can explain all the local customs and traditions, is exceedingly punctual, and creates stress-free delightful holiday adventures. Can't say enough about Made...!
