You can't treat your heroes and gods. Baruna is the god of water, ruler of the seas and oceans. If you have a monument, take care of it! Wash it with the water that belongs to God! The monument was placed in the middle of a tiny square with crazy traffic. Gary and exhaust are full. Cars are a metre from the monument! The entire monument is in oily garri and mud. Nobody wants and everyone forgets Baruna!

One of many colourful statues and monuments that have been erected in Bali during recent years. Very colourful and a great photo opp. Careful of the traffic as its located at a very busy intersection.

Lord Baruna is the God of the Sea to the Bainese. You might be forgiven to think that it is something to do with the nearby Holiday Inn hotel as its logo is plastered all over it.
To me the statue is a sign. Once your car exits the roundabout in Tuban, you are clear of the traffic jam.

The statue of Lord Baruna (back home at Tamil nadu we call him varunan), the deity of sea and rain, is set in the centre of a junction in Kuta district. The statues are the symbol of the people and their belief system. When I saw this statue, I recollected the mention about varunan in the great Tamil literature Tholkappiyam.

While not as elaborate as many of the statues and monuments that have been constructed throughout Bali, the Lord Baruna is worshipped by the Balinese as the God of the Sea and as such is important in Balinese religious lore. See the statue as you head to the airport and if traffic allows you may even get lucky with the camera.

I saw this statue while traveling from Kuta to Bali Airport. It is bang in the center of the road. It is a beautiful statue of the God Baruna who is worshiped by the Balinese people as the God of the sea.
The Balinese people pray to him to get rid of their diseases as well as after the death, the dead body is thrown into the sea and Baruna god is prayed to cleanse their soul and re-send them back again.

Baruna stands firmly on his pedestal at this important junction to central Kuta. Walking from the airport to Kuta town it is the first sign of Hindu nobility. Baruna is the deity of the sea and rain, though earlier also associated with the sky. Locals say he protects us against tsunamis.
