Gunung Ijen adalah gunung yang indah mengalami fenomena api biru. Matahari terbit dan pemandangan di Gunung Bromo juga sangat indah. Ini adalah dua gunung yang paling indah untuk dikunjungi di Surabaya.

Mount Ijen was beautiful to experience the blue fire phenomenon.
The sunrise and the view at Mount Bromo was amazing as well. These are the two most beautiful mountains to visit at Surabaya.

Notes on Mount Bromo:
The best time for travelling to Mount Bromo is between May and October. That is the dry season when the weather is mostly dry and clear. The single best month - completely cloud free - is August. The Mount Bromo site is approximately 2500 meters above sea level so its cold at night. take a jacket and a woolen hat.
To view the sunrise over Mount Bromo, arrive at the viewing platform on Mount Pananjakan early - 4 AM - otherwise you won't get a front row position. I was there on a Monday morning and there was over 300 people crowding the viewing platform by 6 AM.
After viewing the sunrise the normal routine - if you are on a guided tour - is to head back down to the Sea of Sand and then climb up to the volcanic rim of Bromo Crater. Once you arrive at the top care needs to be taken as there is only a narrow track around the rim and the drop into the crater is quite precipitous. Most sightseers are usually in need of a rest before moving on, and given the hard slog to get to the top this is understandable, but unfortunately often when people are feeling exhausted common sense doesn’t prevail. Instead of moving a few meters along the track, left or right, to create a space for others coming up behind them they stand about creating a hazardous log jam on the narrow path while taking a breather. Yes, to push on immediately after arriving at the top can be difficult, but in the matters of safety a few extra meters isn’t going to kill you.
When you do arrive at the top of the stairway it can look a little daunting when you look to the left and see the track winding around the rim to the high point in the distance. Just when you think you’ve got there, you’re not done yet as there’s another 500 meters to traverse around the rim to the top. As mentioned, the crowding on the narrow rim at the top of the stairway has the potential to be a hazardous situation and even though I was busting a gut after the hard slog up I pushed on immediately to get clear of the disorganised melee. Fifty meters further on we were clear of the crowd and after taking a breather for a couple of minutes on a wider part of the track, we were pushing on to the high point of the cone. The cone itself is quite raw and spectacular with a constant emission which roars with pressure being released from the bowels of the earth. The view from the high point is quite amazing as one can look directly down into the depths of the volcanic crater. Take some time to relax and enjoy the raw power of the natural world. It’s a bit of a slog to get all the way up to the high point and the fact is most don’t do it due to fatigue or exhaustion but if you push yourself for fifteen to twenty minutes more, it’s well worth the effort.
