A must! if you happen to visit Safed's old city
It may not be as aesthetically pleasing as the Abohav synagogue, but its rich history, and the intricate wooden altarpiece (or how ever the Jewish equivalent of an altarpiece should be called) - are alone worth the visit. Visiting with a knowledgeable guide would greatly elevate the experience!

Kom niet voor gesloten deuren.
Door tijdstip van aankomst alleen van buiten kunnen bekijken. Imposant. Je kon wel een beetje spieken, maar helaas bleef alles grotendeels buiten zicht, vandaar deze score. Let op dat je het tijdstip van bezoek goed in het schema van openingstijden past.

Amazing history and religious significance
This gorgeous synagogue - and one of the oldest in Israel - is wonderfully historical and spiritual. It is related to Rabbi Isaac Luria (acronym: Ari) and combines a deeply-rooted history with religious centering and Jewish mysticism. It's gorgeously built and decorated, and takes you back in time several centuries. Try to come here with a tour guide to learn more about the history.

Wonderful place to see and pray
Prior to my most recent visit, I would always make sure to visit this synagogue because of the towering, gorgeous ark made of Italian carved wood. It is a beautiful synagogue, and this time around, I actually got a chance to pray there. My son and I went to pray there Friday nights and Saturday mornings, and the service was lovely. Friday night the women's section was packed with people of all ages, and there was a Chazan (cantor) with a beautiful, strong voice who led the prayers. What a spiritual, meaningful experience. I even found a book about the AriZl lying around the women's section, from which I learned quite a lot about the AriZl. Every Friday night, there were lots of pamphlets on the table in the women's section about the weekly portion and about Shabbat and other various religious topics. I used to take some home with me to read over Shabbat. The only thing missing from the synagogue was a women's bathroom. Couldn't find one.

Great synagogue with amazing story

One of the best synagogues to visit in Sfat. It combines history,mysticism and the modern day. We managed to visit on a Saturday night which was special.

Biblical Synagogue.
Part of our Sfat Old City tour. Historic, epic and very Holy experience. The Synagogue dates back to biblical days. The structure is well in tact. Large book collection as well. Especially loved the velvet fabrics and color.

Beautiful Artwork
You can read on the internet about the history of the synagogue. It is in daily use by Torah observant Jews. Beautiful artwork all around including the ceiling.

HISTORIC SYNOGOGUE
This small Ashkenazie synagogue is worth a stop. A small donation is requested when entering. There is a lot of history associated with this synagogue. The ark is made entirely of wood. Well worth a visit. Hope this helps.
