I went to Daejeon to visit National Parks, Gyeryong. I hiked out to peak, which had wonderful views of the city. However, the highlight of the trip was the time I spent in Sutonggol was my favorite. Tripadvisor ranks Sutonggol 42th. However, for me, the hike to a little Lake and to Falls combined to make this my favorite park. I cannot recommend it more if you are planning an outdoor vacation. It is beautiful and with lots of variety, lakeshore and waterfalls all encompassed in a lush, green forest. The pictures won't do it justice. It is truly amazing.

This is one of my favorite places in Daejeon. I can’t even count how many times I’ve been there. If you want to experience beautiful nature, I’d suggest hiking and enjoying the scenery. There are several paths, so you can choose the level of hiking. Usually, there are a lot of people, but if you go there in a weekday afternoon, you can hear the sound of nature – songs of birds, and waterfall sounds. Near the parking lot, there are many cafes and restaurants, which is great for you to enjoy a cup of coffee and take a break. If taking a rest in the nature is your thing, I recommend you sit on a bench and feel the nature.

It is a great place for hiking. It tools us four hires to make a round trip. The site view is really fantastic! You could have a glance of the Deajeon city as well as fun of climbing. The trill is has several types: red- dangerous, orange- mediate dangerous, blue- smoothy. We chose all the red ones, it’s really breathtaking!

Sutonggol Recreation Area falls within the Gyeryongsan National Park jurisdiction and lies between Dodeokbung and Geumsubong peaks of the Gyeryongsan mountain range.
There are 15-minute easy walking paths from its entrance on both banks of the Sutonggol stream that are dotted with benches and exercise stations. At the end of the paths, one can loop back on the other path or proceed with a 30-minute easy hike to Sutong Waterfall. In late autumn (e.g. late Oct 2018), the colourful foliage and the serenity of this place is especially calming and relaxing.
For more enthusiastic hikers, there are intermediate trails of various distances between Dodeokbong, Baegumbong, Geumsubong and Bingyesan (peaks).
Just outside the entrance, there is a charming village with many cosy cafes and restaurants, probably to cater to the nearby university undergraduates.
Sutonggol Recreation Area has a large car-parking area and can be reached by turning off Highway 32 into Dongseo-daero and going past Hanbat National University. At the junction of Dongseo-daero and Sutonggol-ro, turn right for approximately 200m to reach the car-park. It is also very accessible by taking Bus 102 (every 7 mins) from the bus-stop outside Exit 3 of National Cementery Station (subway) to its terminal point which is at the junction of Dongseo-daero and Sutonggol-ro.
