Built in Halle by the Victorian neo-Gothic architect James George Smither, this beautiful temple is almost 150 years old, but it has been well preserved despite constant rains and tsunamis. The church looks majestic both outside and inside: stone columns, wood arches, Burmese teak altar, heavy pews with Star of David carvings, beautiful bright stained glass windows. The species is spoiled by the grinding of moisture and fungus on the whitewashed walls, but Sri Lanka's humid climate is to blame. We were the only visitors, apart from the caretaker who came out. He immediately made it clear that a donation should be made for the temple. It seems that tourists don't visit this place very often. After taking some photos, we left the premises, but on the way out we saw a beautiful couple of local newlyweds who did not refuse to pose. It is pleasing that the temple is not abandoned and in action.

Beautiful old colonial Dutch church. It’s definitely seen better days with a dwindling congregation and caring population but it transports you back in time.

The All Saints Anglican Church in Galle was established during the time of the British. It was constructed in the year 1871 and it is one of the oldest churches in Sri Lanka.

Quite a nice church, both outside and inside. As usual with the Anglicans, it is quite strict and soulless.

This Anglican church is located in the Galle Fort and constructed on the site of a former Court House (1780s). It was consecrated on February 21 1871

This place was a surprising stop on my and my boyfriend's walk through the historical center of Galle. I think that this church is much more interesting than e.g. Galle's lighthouse. Stop by to checkout architecture, atmosphere, and to take a few pictures.

The church's beautiful from the outside but what a disappointment once you get in. We had the feeling that locals tried to turn it into the tourist attraction, no one respects the codes of a visit in a church (shoulders not covered, silence not observed). The person who's watching over people inside the church doesn't seem to realize that he's not supposed to entertain female tourists but rather to make sure that people behave. Out of that the church has quite some charm but there's a lot of mold everywhere in it, that's really something that ought to be fixed.

Viewed as a single item you would have to say not particularly impressive, but along with the fort, other religious buildings, houses and hotels that make up the old town it is just a very pleasant old church worthy of popping in and adding a donation towards it's upkeep.

Der Name besagt es bereits: Die „All Saints Anglican Church“ ist bereits englischen Ursprung, auch wenn die Farbgebung aufgrund der weißen Mauern und roten Dächer eher dem portugiesischen Duktus folgen – die Bauherren von Galle wussten es wohl nicht anders. Immerhin, dem Mauerwerk an den Seiten und vor allem der inneren Gestaltung des Kirchenschiffs lagen dann doch englische Muster zugrunde. Auf jeden Fall ist das gesamte Bauwerk in seiner Gestaltung ziemlich einzigartig in Sri Lanka – man könnte fast von „singhalesischer Neogotik“ sprechen.
