Ik kwam hier heel toevallig naartoe gezien een local zei dat het wel de moeite was. Ik vond het superleuk dat ik een slang mocht aanraken !! Had dit nog nooit gedaan. De gids had veel kennis over de slangen en het was leuk om met de uitbaatster van het park te praten. We bezochten het ziekenhuis waar mensen die gebeten werden door een slang naartoe kunnen. Tot slot aaiden we de kamelen. Het masaai museum vond ik wat minder…

Guide talked you through the various snakes, where they're found, eating habits and how dangerous they are to humans. Our guide was really engaging and the info was interesting, walk around lasted about 45mins. Crocodiles and tortoises to see too. Afterwards we spent 10mins doing guided tour of the Maasai cultural museum which was the right amount of time and info, again friendly guide. $40 for 2 of us probably a bit overpriced for 1 hour entertainment but the snake park does provide free healthcare to anyone in Tanzania with a snake bite so you feel your money is going towards something worthwhile.

Hopefully you visit the snake park before going on safari,

Flink guide som fortalte oss om slangene. Vi fikk se mating og holde slange. De har krokodille, gribb og skilpadder. Ingen andre enn oss der. Minus var at de ikke hadde salg av mat og drikke der. Vi fikk ikke tilbud om noe cafe, men ble guidet ut til masai museet rett etter at vi var ferdig. Man betaler en pris for snake park og museum. Bra museum av masai folk, men følte kjøpepress i slutten av museum. Det satt 20 masai kvinner som solgte det samme. Ingen andre kunder enn oss.

Very interesting explanation about snakes living in Tanzania with presentation of different species. Most of the snakes are not dangerous. However, the center includes a unique in the country clinic curing snake bites. Masai museum, accessible with the same ticket, explains life and traditions of this tribe.

Nous avons passé la nuit au Meserani snake Park. Le camp est assez bien équipé. Le bar est très sympa. La patronne, "Ma", est une personne charmante, sud africaine expatriée en Tanzanie dans les années 90. Le snake Park a le mérite d'exister même si c'est n'est pas forcément un endroit où j'irais s'il n'y avait pas eu le camping. En revanche Ma a fondé un dispensaire pour traiter les victimes de morsure de serpents dans la région. Bravo pour ça !

This was a really awesome, unique place to stay. It is owned/run by Mama Snake who is a cool lady. She and her late husband created the place from scratch a number of years ago. Her late husband was a doctor who started a free clinic there, for snake bite victims.
They have a small area where you can get a tour and see a number of different snakes, other reptiles and a few birds. Our guide was very informative and it was cool to learn about the different types of snakes.
There is a wide open field to camp. We got to stay in the rooms which were nice and clean. The bathrooms are in a building just down from the rooms which were also well maintained and clean.
The bar is really cool. Mama Snake will be your bartender. There are a lot of different choices of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Beware of the Mama's Revenge shots...they burn.
Just outside the snake park there is a small museum of Masai culture for which you can get a guided tour of as well (15-20min). This was very interesting to learn about their culture. There are also some huts that have Masai women who sell homemade jewelry and other trinkets. Be prepared, there is a whole row of them, we only saw the first one at the front and felt bad we spent all our money there instead of spreading it around. There are also camels that you can pay to ride ($1usd pp). They seem to be well taken care of, but just be prepared it's a short ride of about 200 meters round trip with a guide leading the camel.
Make sure you have tips ready for the Snake Park guide and Masai museum guide.

The Meserani snake park is a must visit if your are in Arusha region. They have all varieties of snakes which are home in Tanzania. You can visit the Masai museum and a cattle market next to the park. There is a wonderful bar with good food.

Of Course i love Snakes, it was also my plan to visit this area, what i can advise is the park should add number of snakes of different kinds.

Petit mais très intéressant "Snake Parc". Rencontre découverte de quelques redoutables serpents africains tel Le Mamba noir , le Mamba vert, le Cobra cracheur du Mozambique, la vipère heurtante , le serpent des arbres "boomslang" ... Les connaisseurs seront comblés et les phobiques apprécieront ... peut être (sic) les sueurs froides par ses températures équatoriales. Les non venimeux et autres constrictors complètent le "menu" concernant les serpents ainsi que d'autres crocos, varans et tortues, la possibilité vous est offerte de prendre en main un sympathique non venimeux. Puis, suivent quelques oiseaux, rapaces diurnes et nocturnes, perroquets et perruches ... Bref une visite sympa à une 20taine de kilomètres de Arusha
