I traveled with a large group to Tanzania to embark on an African Safari in November. Shadows of Africa, in particular our driver, Charles, was nothing short of amazing! We saw the Big 5 and then some! Charles did his best to make sure we checked every animal sighting off our list. He could almost anticipate the animals' moves as he would place us in the perfect location for photos. His knowledge and experience are vast. He provided a ton of information about each of the animal species as well as the various parks we explored; there was no question he couldn't answer. In addition, he helped coordinate our lunches, set a lovely table scape, and made sure our cooler was full. It was definitely a trip of a lifetime with great friends, both old and new, and Charles added to the experience. Thank you Shadows of Africa, and thank you Charles!

The 8 day Tanzania safari trip organized by Fun Happenings and provided by Shadows of Africa and our guide/driver Charls was an unforgettable and magical experience. Charls's subject matter expertise and thoughtfulness was only surpassed by his kindness, flexibility and professionalism. The animals, wildlife, sites and scenery were breathtaking and soul touching. This was a once-in-a-lifetime trip made great by all who where involved!

Group of 46 friends traveled through Arusha, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti with Shadows of Africa. Charles, driver for 6 of us, was friendly, knowledgeable and extremely attentive. It was the trip of a lifetime!

Our group of 46 travelers with Fun Happenings Travel of Adventures spent 8 days with the wonderful guides/drivers from Shadows of Africa. My group of 6 had the very professional and awesome guide/driver Geraldo Bayo. We can’t say enough wonderful things about him or our week in his care. Gerald is an excellent animal spotter, guide, and driver. We felt completely safe and his goal was to be sure we were always comfortable, happy, and to ensure we had the best game drive experience in Tanzania. His Jeep was always clean inside and out even knowing that 5 minutes after picking us up we’d be driving through the dirt and mud of Ngorongoro and Serengeti. Every morning he’d pick us up with a smile and enthusiasm and determined to make sure we had the best day. The whole experience for all 46 of us was the same with all our polite, trained, wonderful drivers. THANK YOU to Gerald and Shadows of Africa for the most amazing game drive experience in Africa. You made it a trip of a lifetime for me and my fellow travelers❤️

This was a trip of a lifetime! We have traveled many places but the hospitality and welcoming and attention to detail was astounding! Our guide looked to every detail of our trip Bryson was knowledgeable, funny, caring and knew the parks extensively. All of the staff from trip itinerary planning with Karen to Ben-and Kate in the office.
We saw more animals than we could have hoped for experienced the culture, food and stayed in some of the most beautiful lodges! Highly recommend Shadows af Africa

Our family felt like we were part of a National Geographic film! Shadows of Africa created and provided an experience of a lifetime.
First, I want to thank all of the previous travelers who submitted reviews resulting in 5 star recognition for Shadows of Africa. As a very detailed-oriented individual who likes to be in control, I performed a lot of research into the safari companies and the 5 star rating was one of the compelling factors that led me to select Shadows of Africa.
Secondly, tremendous praise to our Safari Specialist, Karen Maki, who created this 9 day/8 night expedition through Tanzania in mid-August 2023. Karen exhibited all of the attributes of outstanding client service:
• Promptly responding to emails (and there was a flurry of emails back and forth)
• Fully understanding our desires and crafting an itinerary that aligned to our goals…and customizing the plans many times to incorporate the input from family members before creating a final itinerary
• Selecting incredible accommodations that we wanted consisting of half of our stays in luxury camps and half in brick-and-mortar resorts
• Extensive knowledge of the places to visit throughout Tanzania
• Created an affordable solution…then as I increased the budget, she added truly special events from private sundowners in Ngorongoro Crater and in Northern Serengeti, a private bush dinner in Central Serengeti as we were treated like royalty, hot air balloon excursion…these events were some of the spectacular highlights of the trip and provided great family memories
• One of my family members is allergic to nuts. Karen ensured that each hotel was fully aware and we were greeted by the chef who would make my son’s meal separate to avoid any concerns (cross-contamination) with nuts.
Thirdly, the safari guide plays such a pivotal part in the enjoyment of the safari. Alex must be recognized as one of the top safari guides in the industry as he demonstrated:
• Absolutely incredible ability to find predators from insanely far distances while driving…and then driving us to close to the animals for great viewing and pictures.
• Great knowledge and instincts of where to find predators laying in low areas or by waterholes that other safari drivers had previously driven by completely unaware of the predators. In speaking with members of other safari guides who we would cross paths, the other families would comment that they have not seen any predators all day whereas we had spent hours watching lion families, cheetahs and leopards.
• We made the most of our days by starting early and ending as late as possible. Alex was completely flexible, listened to our desires and adjusted the daily schedules accordingly.
• Alex is super friendly and we were so glad that he joined us in our private sundowners and private VIP bush dinner as we got to know him more personally and had a lot of laughs.
• Always positioned us in the best potential spot among other safari drivers in watching river crossings, leopards eating their meal in the tree, etc.
• We loved our packed lunches that we would eat in picturesque locations that Alex would select for us throughout our daily adventures.
Fourth, this safari was our most expensive family vacation, but the price offered by Shadows of Africa was reasonably positioned vs. other safari companies. There were some safari companies that were more than double in price for the same itinerary. When you factor in the value that I have documented above, the overall price is truly a fantastic deal.
Overall, I strongly recommend the “dream team” of Karen Maki, our guide Alex and the extended Shadows of Africa team for future travelers and have already recommended to close family and friends!

Shadows of Africa was an amazing company to use for our Tanzania safari. Our experience was nothing but spectacular! The booking process with Jake was so easy and informational. When we got to Tanzania Martin, our guide, picked us up and the safari was beyond perfect. Martin was an excellent guide. He knew so much about the national parks and animals. With his aid we were able to see "The big 5" up close and personally! We saw so many animals including zebras, wildebeests, lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, rhinoceros', hippopotamus' and many cool birds! Martin ensured we saw everything and made sure we were satisfied and happy. He was excellent company.
Shadows of Africa did an amazing job costumizing our safari. We were able to do walking Safaris,
a Hot Air Balloon ride, night Safaris and stayed in incredible lodges and tented camps. We have never felt more spoiled.
We also did a hike up Kilimanjaro to Mandara hut. Our guide, Amir, was absolutely wonderful for this as well! He told us about the plants and animals present on the mountain and ensured we were comfortable throughout the journey. Amir even took us to a waterfall at the end of the hike which was beautiful!
We highly recommend this company. You will be well cared for and have an unforgettable experience!

My family's trip to Tanzania was out of this world! Our guide, Charles, was able to spot such a wide variety of animals and he has such a wide breadth of knowledge about all the animals. Charles made sure we saw everything from cheetahs with their cubs, to a pride of lions feasting on their meal, to the wildebeest migration, and even some rhinos. All of our accommodations were wonderful and the food was very good, we even had a bush lunch! Shadows of Africa organized our trip very well and I would definitely recommend booking your safari with this wonderful organization.

From the beginning the company supported us pefectly with our wishes through our Tansania journey. They personalised the whole safari with the accommodations, national parks and even the visit at a Maasai village. We learned a lot about the wildlife, the culture and even some Suahili and were super lucky to see a lot of wonderful animals especially the Big 5 (Rhinos in Ngorongoro). Martin our driver showed us the best places to spot animals, has a great network to be informed about animal sights, always calm and has an answer to every question -> Thank you! Also the quality of the food was top. We expected kind of a sandwich for lunch but the different accommodation prepared at least a 3 course menue for us. For sure we will plan our next trip to Africa again with Shadows of Africa.

Me and one of the Safari specialists Inge have been exchanging emails back and forth for a while, we are very close to finalising our trip, yet all of sudden, the specialist just stopped replying to me, out of blue, its very disappointing and rude. Can you have someone get back to me? if not interested in taking us in as customers, at least let us know, rather than just stop replying in the middle of a email exchange.

We are planing to visit Tanzania in February 2017 and we`d like to travel with your Travel Company. Our flight coming to Dar-es-salam, and we`ll have 5-6 days in continent, then going to Zanzibar. Is it possable to have transfer to Arusha then take a 3 day trip safary and back to ferry. What the lowest price fo 2 persons (safary and transfers)

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is closer to the Kilimanjaro airport, but we usually combine both the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti into our safaris so you can see both!!

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is closer to the Kilimanjaro airport, but we usually combine both the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti into our safaris so you can see both!!
