Walking uphill from Kaş Harbour you will find a lot of shops in picturesque old, formerly Greek, houses, the balconies of which are overgrown by bougainvilleas and other lush plants. Art, antiques, souvenirs and the usual carpets are on sale. The street called Uzun Çarşı Caddesi is one of the touristic hotspots of Kaş. I bet all the visitors come here at least once during their stay. In a little square stands ancient Lykian Lion’s Tomb, whose name results from two lion heads protruding on its sides. Its front looks quite impressive. Together with the surrounding houses the tomb serves as a photo motive for many tourists, the more so since it is perfect to rest in the shadow of the tree rising up next to it. When you walk around the tomb you can see that tourism brings along a lot of negative by-effects in the form of rubbish mindlessly and disrespectfully thrown into the cavity of the tomb.
The construction (if you can call it so, perhaps sculpture would be the better word) consists of a single block of stone. A text of eight lines in Lykian language cannot be deciphered any more. Thus it is not known who was the owner of the tomb. People think it was a king. On the lower part of the sarcophagus there are more writings and pearl motives. On top of that part come stylized windows, one of which was broken out. Various reliefs depict women and a mourning man. Several sources say that the tomb dates back to the 4th century BC, when Antiphellos was a little town , the harbour of Phellos on the mountains nearby. The owner of the tomb had perhaps visited Kaş amphitheater in his/her lifetime…

В жару 42 градуса мы шли через весь город посмотреть на этот памятник древней цивилизации : слов не было , одно недоумение даже не захотелось сделать фото ( в отзыве оставлю фото улицы рядом ) : вокруг памятникам мусор ,а внутри гробницы живут дикие коты и пластик и мусор,который туда складывают все проходящие мимо ! Вид удручает и запахи вокруг тоже ! Не советую тратить время и лицезреть гробницу современной культуры !

You will find this tomb when you walk by the bazar. Is very well preserved and worth to take a look.

Meydnın az yukarısında hala şehrine göz kulak olmaya çalışan bir kralın mezarı .. görkemli bir ağacın altında insan kalabalıklarını izleyen sessiz tarih .. geldiğinizde görmemeniz mümkün değil ama alıp sizi geçmişe yolculuk yaptırmasına da izin vermelisiniz..
