The Bamboo Circus Teh Dar is a mesmerising performance by young acrobats and musicians that is so full of energy, passion and skill, it takes your breath away! From the young men throwing themselves at a coracle as it is being swung around the stage at speed to the girls creating the beat of drums by bouncing balls on the drumskins, it's spell-binding! Do not miss it!

Good view from the cheap seats

We stayed 16 nights in Hoi An, so this allowed us to choose a night with the best available seats in the cheapest price category. We booked on the venue’s website, seats E8 and E10 on the right-hand side. They were at the same level as the WOW category of seating (the most expensive), and only separated by 2 metres for the open stairway. The show was fantastic, very talented acrobats, dancers, and musicians. We highly recommend the show.

Just amazing!

Teh-Dar - INCREDIBLE!! It was mesmerising, captivating and emotive. We loved every second of it and if there was a second viewing that night we would have gone!

I don’t know what I was expecting but it blew it all out the water. One of the best nights of the trip (and it’s been a great trip so far!). Those guys are amazing - their skill and intensity is admirable! The music, the dancing, the athletic prowess. It was all sensational!

Breathtaking agility, timing and strength

The Vietnamese Bamboo Circus Teh Dar was an awesome show. The speed and agility of the performers is breathtaking and having recently been to Cirque du Soleil I would rate this as being on a similar level of performance and artistry.
The show is not long, just over an hour, but for most of this time you are kept spellbound by some unbelievable feats of balance, timing and strength.
We had the lowest price seats in row 5 (E8 and E10) and the view was perfect and really close to the action.
If you get the chance to see this show I recommend you go for it.

Teh Dar is a breath-taking bamboo circus

Circus is a very popular style of performance in Melbourne and I've been lucky to see a lot of different shows - but I've never seen anything like Teh Dar!

The raw energy of their performance was, at moments, quite literally breath-taking. Each time I thought they were finished amazing me, they amped things up a notch! The show was absolutely spectacular.

There was a lot of nuance I missed because I'm not familiar with Vietnamese history - I would love to attend again with a guide so I could pick up on the subtleties of the story that was being told, because it was so beautifully performed that I could tell it had real meaning and depth to it that I was missing.

The Lune Centre itself is a lovely little theatre. Very photogenic. Although I think, depending on the performance, some of the side seats towards the back might make it hard to view the show. It's well air-conditioned and has bathroom facilities in a separate building a short walk from the theatre over a roughly cobbled path (so people using mobility aids might struggle, but there are ramps into the theatre itself).

Tourist trap to be avoided

We bought our horridly expensive tickets from a pleasant helpful lady at the tourist office in Hoi An. We were looking forward to the show which we hoped would offer traditional music, outstanding acrobatics and skillful bamboo pole activities like I have seen elsewhere in Vietnam many times. I found this performance partly amateurish and sometimes even embarrassing and exposing nothing of the skills and elegance that I have often seen. Money poorly spent!
