so After Leaving the Tokugawa Garden and Museum we went here and the monks/Garden Staff were extremely rude and laughed at us when we asked in Japanese if we can look around and take some pictures and we felt really uncomfortable and left thankfully this was the only time on the holiday this happened and the rest of the Japanese people were amazing

The east side of Nagoya Castle is an area where Owari Tokugawa culture remains strong.
This Jodo sect temple stands in a town that condenses Nagoya from the Edo to Meiji periods.
It was founded by the second Owari feudal lord, Mitsutomo, to mourn his feudal ancestor, Yoshinao.
It has since served as the family temple of successive Owari Tokugawa clan members, and is still loved by locals as a source of comfort and support for all the people of the Owari domain.
The mountain gate remains in the same condition as when it was first built, having survived the Ozone fire.
Many of the buildings, including the mountain gate, main gate, main hall, Onarimon gate, bell tower, etc., are city-designated cultural properties.
The temple grounds are not very large, but there is plenty to see.

I had always been interested in this temple as it is the family temple of the Owari Tokugawa family, but this was my first time visiting. Although it is partially separated by roads and a park, you can still feel the vestiges of the past. The size of the mountain gate and main hall are just what you would expect from the Owari Tokugawa family.

御三家筆頭の菩提寺ということで期待して来てみましたが、道路などで分断されていたり、境内には車が停められていたりと少し期待外れのお寺です（決して他のお寺と比べて小さいというわけでは有りません）。それでも総門や山門、鐘楼、二代藩主光友公廟所などが往時の勢いを窺うことが出来ますよ。

境内に入ると、懐かしい雰囲気に包まれます。街は来るたびに変わっていますが、境内に植わっている松の木、桜、お寺の敷地内にある幼稚園側の大きくて立派なくすの木。変わらないものがある喜び。癒やされる場所です。桜は３分咲き。４月に入って満開になりそうです。
お寺の北側に中学校があり、お寺の奥から美しい桜並木が見られます。

建中寺には幼いころ（５０年くらい前）に祖父母に連れられて行ったことがかすかな記憶として残っています。大きな本堂があり、たしか幼稚園が近くにあり、名古屋ＴＶ塔が見えたことを覚えています。先般、名古屋を訪れて時間があったので行ってみました。昔のころとどう違うのか、記憶自体が定かでないのですが、何か懐かしい感じででした。
