千葉駅から徒歩１０分程度の大きな公園です。レンタルボートは３０分２００円？だったか破格のお値段。この日はマルシェが数多く出ており、コーヒーや軽食、アクセサリーや革製品の店舗など多数出店されていました。真夏にも関わらず木陰が多く非常に快適に過ごすことができました。

蓮の池があり、池の中に遊歩道があるのですごく近くで蓮を見られます。遊歩道には階段もあるので、高めの視界からも鑑賞できます。葉も大きくて雨の雫があると綺麗です。夜にはライトアップや演劇みたいなイベントもしているみたいです。駅から近くアクセス抜群です。

ハスの花が見頃を迎えたので平日の早朝に訪れました。一眼レフカメラを携えた写真愛好家のほか、多くの人で賑わっていましたが、警備員も配置されているので整然としていました。一方通行の通路が設置されているので、すぐ近くでピンク色の美しい花を鑑賞できました。ちょっと歩きますが旧競輪場の駐車場が無料で開放されています。

枝垂桜と大賀蓮が有名ですが、その前後の牡丹、芍薬、アガパンサスもきれいです。
ボランティアさん達によるミニガーデンがあちらこちらにあり、そちらも四季折々楽しめます。
年代物の樹々に囲まれた池があるので、夏場でも涼しく散歩できます。

Although On May 25, 2020 the Japanese government lifted the declaration of the state of emergency in the remaining prefectures of Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama and Hokkaido, we remained cautious in particular because of the number of people diagnosed as positive in Tokyo. We therefore decided to make only short excursions in Chiba Prefecture for the time being. There was a lot of coverage of ancient lotuses in full bloom from end June to early July, and as we found that one of the most popular places with these ancient lotuses was in Chiba City, we made a visit to Chiba Park in Chiba City, only one kilometer north of central Chiba. Chiba Park was opened as a municipal park several years after WWII on the former site of Railroad Regiment No. 1, where a baseball ground, multi-purpose stadium (which used to host cycling races), gymnasium, swimming pool and other facilities were gradually opened. The baseball ground has been discontinued and planned to be converted to public open space. The multi-purpose stadium is in the process of being rebuilt. There was a temporary car park on the northern edge of the park for visitors coming to see the ancient lotuses. There is no parking fee or admission fee to the park. All of the athletic facilities are located on the north side of the park. From the car park, we passed by the outdoor swimming pools and headed south to the pond where the ancient lotuses are. Here I need to talk about the lotus, called Oga lotus. Peat for fuel used to be harvested in Kemigawa, about 7 kilometers west of the town center of Chiba City and part of the city. Several years after the end of WWII, a Neolithic canoe was found in the peat bog, which led to an excavation. Two more canoes and a lotus receptacle were found. Dr. Oga, a botanist and lotus expert carried out further excavation that led to the discovery of three lotus seeds, one of which he succeeded to germinate and bloom in 1952. The lotus gained worldwide recognition as the Oga Lotus. From the seeds and roots, Oga Lotus has been successfully cultivated all around Japan, including Chiba Park. It was during the monsoon season, but the rain had let up and with the sunshine it started to get quite warm, which made me feel uncomfortable wearing a mask. There were quite a few visitors already but everyone was quite conscious of keeping a social distance with other visitors. The lotus flowers were over their peak, but there were still more than three hundred to enjoy. The purple flowers are very beautiful and much bigger than I had thought. It is a pity that they only last a few days. The lotus receptacles are also very unique. There is a wooden passage that takes visitors through the middle of the lotuses. There are quite a few flowering plants in the park. Quite noticeable in the middle of the park was a field of purple agapanthus in full bloom and the hydrangeas also in their peak. There were also some scattered orange iris close by. It was a very interesting and rewarding visit that I would recommend to travelers especially around June and July.

今年の様な時でも、千葉公園の花は、ちゃんと綺麗に咲いていました。
早朝ですが “大賀ハス” を見にこられた方が距離を取りながら見にこられてました。
今年はハスの中の木道は一方通行でした。荒木山方面からハスの中の木道～建物～千葉公園駅方面～池の横からハスを見る感じでした。

Stayed at a hotel very near the JR Station. It's very quiet and laid-back here. Unlike the noise and hordes of tourists in Tokyo.
Chiba Eki has trees, shaded benches, a pond with ducks. There's a boat rental service if you wanna spend some time just paddling around the pond. Watched some tourists having fun .
Then I walked off to ride the Monorail at Chibakoen station. To see the animals at Chiba Zoo. But that's another topic for my next review...
