Hey there! I went there last month and checked the temple website and other resouces but it says 'always open'. There is no specific closed day in anything published. In fact, in December there are some events. Its a great place, particularly if you are interested in culture and Japan. You may check the website of naritasan temple.

The hotel Richmond is very nice and close. Just a short walk to the Naritasan Hhinsho-ji Temple and just an escalator ride from the train station. I usually stay at the Toyoko-Inn and take the shuttle to both the Temple and train but with the fist AM train the Richmond is a much better choice. There are several other hotels within a couple of blocks of the Richmond, but I like it more.

Yes.. Afternoon is fine. The walk to the temple is nice, for shopping you can go to Aeon mall (tax free). Nothing much around.

Like everyone said "IT'S FREE!" To get there from Narita Station, you may take a cab, or take a nice walk on Omotesando street with lots of restaurants and local shops selling unique gifts and crafts. The temple is huge. Many structures and beautiful gardens to look at. You may need some change to make a contribution to the offering box if you like. There are several gift shops through out the property. "Omamori" --protection charm is a great souvenir. Price range from 500-1000 yen.

I ate the healthiest I have eaten in any country while in Japan. Like they mentioned in other posts, the town is so full of small restaurants you will find plenty. Not just the main streets, but I found great food in small eateries down side streets. Usually if you are not sure, many if not most have pictures of the food. In our case, if I couldn't pronounce or read the menu, I would take a phone picture of it and show it to the server. I walked and ate so well I lost a few pounds over there. I still daydream of that area. Happy travels.

I am so sorry I am only seeing this 28 days late from when you asked it, but yes! They are. Different cherry trees with different blooms are blooming around Narita at this time (29. Apr, 17). As for the exact one I pictured, I don't know as I didn't visit Narita-San temple yesterday. But there were plenty of cherry blossoms blooming in the city. Also, the city Flowers that line the road from city center to the train station smell just like clover yesterday.
