Totally good, free information about the excavations and the time Nara was the capital. We had an hour scheduled, which was rather close. A look behind the rebuilt gate at the excavation area is also worthwhile afterwards to get a better impression of the incredible dimensions of the complex. Definitely recommended. In particular, it is not as crowded here as in the park and Todai-ji.

This Educational centre is wonderful. Want to learn about the significance of Nara Palace Site Historical Park? This is the place to visit. Did you know the palace was lost for over 1000 years? Unfortunately it is not in the "tourist centre" of the Nara Park area and only visited by those with cars or willing to venture by bus. It is under utilized but a wonderful asset of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara World Heritage.
The Educational centre is full of details regarding the site: it's history, it's lost and found story, the artifacts and how the recreations were constructed. Highly recommend viewing the video on the site with it's loss and re-discovery. It will give you a great start for understanding the exhibits and info on the Chinese influence in the buildings and clothing. The displays are wonderfully detailed and you are free to roam the centre.
Did I mention it is FREE!!! And a perfect place to visit during inclement weather.
There are period costumes to wear for photo ops and both adults and children seem to enjoy this activity.
On the large site is also the Suzakumon Gate which was Nara Palace's Main Gate and the Suzakumon Hiroba Square where festival events occurred. Archaeological digs are still occurring and new information is being unearthed.
I highly recommend a visit...we greatly enjoyed it!!

[Heijo Palace Historical Park] If your goal is to stroll around, it would be helpful to first visit Exhibition Room 2: Appearance of Heijo Palace (a 1/200 scale model of Heijo Palace is on display) and Exhibition Room 3: Activities of the Past (a 1/5 scale model of the Daigokuden Hall is on display). Furthermore, the buildings of Heijo Palace are sturdily constructed using only timber framework, without the use of nails. Exhibition Room 3 also displays samples of timber framework, which you can use to actually assemble the buildings of Heijo Palace, which will give you a better understanding when you visit the buildings of Heijo Palace - the Suzaku Gate, the Daigoku Gate and the Daigokuden Hall. There is also an explanation of the highlights of the Daigokuden Hall (see attached photo), so this is recommended.

【大極殿】に関する情報が[展示室1 平城宮跡のいま（添付 写真参照）]で 触れることが出来ますので 【大極殿】を見学目的で【平城京跡歴史公園】を訪れた方は こちらも見学されることをお薦めします。[展示室2 平城宮のようす]では 【平城宮】全体の1/200模型が展示されており 3月19日より一般公開を開始した【大極門】が【平城宮】全体において どのような位置にあったかを知ることが出来ます（【大極殿】を回廊で囲み 【大極門】でつなぐ 【大極殿院】だけのの模型が【平城宮跡資料館】に展示されており 【大極門】だけを知りたい場合は こちらより そちらが良いかも知れません）。又【大極門】完成記念ｽﾀﾝﾌﾟﾗﾘｰ[3月19日～5月15日）が実施されており、5ｹ所（平城宮いざない館 も含む）を巡ることにより 絵葉書が完成します（添付 写真参照）。

奈良の平城京を実感出来るような展示館、無料です。理解しやすいように、平城宮跡のいま、時を超えて、平城宮のようす、往時のいとなみ、と四つのコーナーに分かれています。朱雀門の近くにある展示館ではいろいろなイベントも開催されているようです。
往時を体感できる奈良時代の衣装を着るコーナーでは多くに海外の観光客がトライされていました。展示品から往時を感じることが出来るようによく出来ていると思います。

平城宮跡歴史公園の南側にある、国営の展示館で無料でした。公園内の大きな地図があったりして、まずここから見て回るとわかりやすいです。

Berkunjung ke Heijokyo Izanaikan memberikan pengalaman yang berharga bagi saya karena dapat melihat langsung sejumlah benda-benda bersejarah di Nara yang dipamerkan di beberapa ruangan di dalam museum. Salah satu yang menarik adalah gerband emas seperti paviliun yang digunakan oleh raja dan penguasa di Nara pada zaman dahulu yang masih sangat terawat.

今年4月29日に【長屋王墓（奈良県生駒郡平群町）】を訪問し、こちらの展示室[4 時をこえて、II 平城京]に長屋王の住宅模型（添付 写真参照）が展示されているのを思い出し 《平城京天平祭》に合わせて再訪しました。 前回訪問と異なり 【長屋王墓】訪問後でもあり 同じ住宅模型を鑑賞しても 印象が異なりました。 又 こちらでは《企画展：万葉歌詠み人の衣装（4月27日～6月30日)》開催されており、[飛鳥～奈良時代（万葉集の時代）]の衣装について触れることが出来ます（添付 写真参照）。 年号が《平成》から《令和》になった際 《万葉集》が注目されましたが 異なる視点から《万葉集》の時代に触れては如何でしょうか。 《飛鳥時代・推古期の衣装》《飛鳥時代・藤原京の衣装》《奈良時代・平城京の衣装》が展示されており、本衣装展の解説文書には 《令和》の元となった 《大友旅人》の《梅花の歌》の訳文も掲載されていますので 入手されることをお薦めします。

ここにはみはらし館、つどい館、うまし館、などあるのだが移動が大変。なぜ一つにしてくれなかったのかな。パーキングも自動チケットとバーを作れば、あんなにたくさんの人を配置しなくてもいいし、システムも中の精算機に行かなくてはならずめんどくさい。雨でなくてよかった。時間がない人はいざない館だけでいいかも
