This is the most beautiful square in Timisoara, both day and night.
Its present appearance dates back from 18c when it was liberated from Ottoman rule and Habsburg royalty set their palace here.
Besides the Palace which is the Art Museum today, Piata Unirii is home to the Serbian Orthodox Church and Bishop seat, Catholic Church of Saint George and colorful picturesque Bruck houses. The middle of the square is adorned with an ornate column monument commemorating the victory over the plague along with a nice fountain beside it.
Many outdoor cafes and restaurants around the square, nice to have a drink and admire the square beauty.

So it begins - Timisoara 2023 - Cultural Capital of Culture !!! (alongside Veszprem in Hungary and Eleusina in Greece ) - and the grand opening was in the weekend of 17-19th of February 2023!
And the venue of choice to start "with full force" was the Unirii square in Timisoara - in one of the corner a big stage was erected and it started with an evening of concert (and some air ballet) - and guess what , my favorite local band Implat pentru Refuz (IPR short - Implant for Denial in English) was the opening act. What a show , what a feeling ... awesomeness in the happening.
So beside the landmarks , the historical buildings, the pubs, bars, restaurants and terrace the traveler visiting Timisoara and Unirii square in 2023 should not be surprise to "land" in a middle of a cultural event - more than 2500 events planed for this year in Timisoara ....
So yes it has begun - and Unirii square was shining brighter than ever. When you are in Timisoara you can't miss a walk in this iconic spot of the town.

The church and a corner building are still under renovation, but the other buildings and the square itself went through spectacular renovations. Absolutely fantastic, and nice terraces all around , I was really impressed after visiting in the past.

La place de l’union. C’est la place centrale de la vieille ville de Timisoara. Une belle et grande place avec une statue située au centre du lieu. Il y a plusieurs anciens bâtiments du style néogothique. Il y a aussi plusieurs terrasses de restaurants. Un endroit pour profiter du soleil.

Magnifique, place immense, très bien restaurée, qui montre combien l'architecture était belle dans cette ville. Plusieurs églises, bie n entretenues ou en cours de restauration, jolie pharmacie avec rayonnages à l'ancienne' de multiples restaurants, malheureusement les plats ne sont pas locaux.

Timisoara may not be regarded as an art city but I am sure things will change soon. Piata Unirii is going under a massive renovation. If you go there now, your panorama will be marred by scaffolding but once the makeover is over and done with, the square will be wounderful.

Piazza molto bella con i palazzi colorati in stile barocco (tuttavia solo in alcuni potrete entrare) su cui si affacciano il Museo di Arte nazionale, il Duomo cattolico e la Chiesa Serba Ortodossa. Diversi sono i locali presenti su tutti e 4 i lati dove potete bere o mangiare.

Buongiorno, io adesso sono ruentrato in Italia, ma come dice Valeria anche se a volte si raggiungono i -15°C non sarà mai freddo come da noi, è un freddo asciutto. Per le condizioni guarda sulle previsioni metereologiche, sono abbastanza attendibili. Per la carta no problem e se ti serve di cambiare c'è al centro Jabri o altri sulla stessa via che hanno il miglior cambio valuta. Per mangiare ti consiglio cucina locale al Timisoreana al centro dove è la Cattedrale, ma se vuoi italiana ce ne sono diversi tra cui la Locanda del Corso. Il tutto tranquillamente a piedi. Buona vacanza
