We visited this cultural institution called the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia with our children and grandchildren in order to refresh our memory of the milestones of our country’s journey and introduce it to the younger generation. Interesting, educational, informative and exciting! It’s just that in order to see all this and fully absorb it, you will need a whole working day (maybe a little less) with a break for lunch.☝️The grandchildren were naturally not ready for this action, and to be honest, neither were we, since going out to drink a cup of coffee and entering again the purchased ticket will not work. This reminded me of the situation in the Central Park of Culture and Culture named after. CM. Kirova (Elagin Island) in St. Petersburg - I forgot my umbrella, pills or purse in the car, buy a ticket again!🤣🤣🤣 3 hours flew by unnoticed and we decided to leave the rest of the exhibition for later. I recommend visiting it, it will be interesting. But where did the armored car go, only the cannon and the tram pole with the “wound” remained in place!?🧐

For me, the most touching and at the same time tragic exhibit of the exhibition “My Great Land” was the holographic image of Abram Ilyich Schwartz, the hero of Vladimir Mashkov from the play “Sailor’s Silence”. The opening of the exhibition dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the famous play Tabakerka and the 105th anniversary of the birth of the author of the play, Alexander Galich, took place last Friday at the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia.
To my deep regret, I have not seen the performance, but of course I know the plot. Vladimir Mashkov in 2004 He made a film based on the play, “Papa,” and I just saw it. I still haven’t lost hope of watching the play, because the role of old man Schwartz, which became the happy beginning of Mashkov’s creative path, accompanies him through life throughout all these years. And today, using all his many years of acting experience, the Artistic Director of the Tabakov Theater performs it, each time forcing the audience to empathize with the hero and cry during the performance, not at all ashamed of their tears.
Even in holographic execution, the story of an old Jewish man about his being sent to the ghetto and the last minutes of his life is, as they say, goosebumps. I’m even afraid to imagine what will happen to me if I go to the theater for the performance itself. I will most likely cry. And at the vernissage it was especially exciting to watch how, while viewing the exhibition, the actor seemed to meet his hero face to face.
As for the exhibition, it was incredibly interesting both from the point of view of the theatrical component and from the point of view of historical authenticity. Numerous theatrical photographs of different years and compositions of the play, object installations, playbills, posters, original costumes of those years reflect not only the 20-year period of life of the heroes of the play during the entire performance until 1944. but also the fate of a huge country, inextricably linked with the fate of the heroes of Galich. This wonderful idea to combine the literary and theatrical basis with the real life of the country was very successfully visited by the curators and artists of the exhibition (by the way, the Chief Artist of the exhibition, Andrei Reiner, was responsible for the artistic embodiment of the plan).
Galich's play has a dramatic fate. It was practically staged by the Sovremennik Theater in 1958, and the main roles were to be played by Evgeny Evstigneev and Igor Kvasha, but after the dress rehearsal, cultural officials, fearful of the development of the Jewish theme, banned it. 30 years later, the play “My Great Land” was revived in the famous basement of the Tabakerka under the name “Sailor’s Silence” and Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov was not afraid to entrust the role of old man Schwartz to 23-year-old Vladimir Mashkov. For Vladimir Lvovich, the topic is also very personal; he also felt the love of his own father and this helped him better understand his hero. A poignant story about all-consuming paternal love has not left the Tabakerka stage for 35 years and several generations of wonderful actors gained fame by playing the role of David Schwartz, a talented violinist and stage son of Mashkov. Over the years, the role of David was played by Evgeny Mironov, Alexander Marin, Pavel Tabakov, and in today’s lineup, the undoubtedly talented Vladislav Miller took the baton. Both he and other actors who played in the play joined the artistic director of the theater at the opening of the exhibition. This is Marina Zudina, and Yana Sexte, and Vitaly Egorov, and Sergei Ugryumov, and Alexander Fisenko. And as official congratulations, welcoming words in honor of the significant event were said by Irina Velikanova, General Director of the Museum, and Alexey Shaposhnikov, Chairman of the Moscow City Duma. The playwright’s daughter Alena Aleksandrovna Galich was also present at the opening of the exhibition.
I wholeheartedly advise you to look at this wonderful exhibition, feel the spirit of the times, empathize with the characters, learn a lot of new things about the play and performance, and in general, wander around the museum, there are incredibly many other interesting pages from the history of our common Greater Earth.

28 июня 2023 года я впервые посетил центральный корпус вашего музея и, увы, не могу сдержать негативных эмоций. Заранее оговорюсь, что нижеследующий текст не относится к музею как вместилищу предметов, имеющих историческую ценность, но только как учреждению культуры, которое работает с людьми в рамках своей основной деятельности. Очень кратко скажу: экспозиция музея потрясающая, отношение же к посетителям по меньшей мере странное (не поймите превратно - я стараюсь быть очень тактичным в своих выражениях).
Все начиналось замечательно: я пришел в музей вместе с супругой в районе 13.46. Мы купили билеты у крайне вежливого кассира и приступили к осмотру основной экспозиции. По прошествии 3-х часов (приблизительно в районе 16.30) находясь в районе 7-го зала основной экспозиции, мы почувствовали, что немного устали и приняли решение спуститься в фойе чтобы освежиться, посидеть и выпить чашку кофе, а затем продолжить осмотр. Выйдя за турникеты, мы с удивлением услышали от служащей музея, что она не пропустит нас по прежним билетам. В ответ на наше удивление она указала на камеры слежения и сообщила "что за ней следят, и она не может пропустить людей повторно". Такой сюрприз меня несколько обескуражил, однако нам очень хотелось посмотреть экспозицию, которую к тому моменту мы не прошли и наполовину. Мы купили билеты повторно. Поднимаясь по лестнице, нас ждал еще один "сюрприз" ещё одна служащая музея, которая, указав на мой рюкзак, сказала: "у вас слишком большой рюкзак, сдайте его в камеру хранения". Вот это была соломинка, сломившая спину верблюда! Я прошел рамки металлодетектора, продемонстрировал свой рюкзак охране в униформе, купил второй билет (себе и жене) и теперь еще и должен сдавать свой рюкзак (в котором, к слову, была только одна книга и мой паспорт)!? Я три часа до этого осматривал экспозицию, и никто не придавал никакого внимания моему рюкзаку! В виду уважительного отношения к статусу учреждения я не стал устраивать публичный скандал. Однако, поверьте мне, я до сих пор негодую. Я выполнил и эту просьбу. Надо ли говорить, что моё настроение и впечатление о посещении вашего музея к этому моменту были безвозвратно испорчены?
Изложив все факты, позвольте поинтересоваться, на какого посетителя рассчитаны эти правила? Чтобы вдумчиво и внимательно осмотреть всю экспозицию потребуется не менее 6 часов. В то же время нужно отдавать отчет, что не всякий человек сдюжит беспрерывное хождение на протяжении 6-ти часов без возможности присесть (я уж не говорю о физиологических нуждах). Однако если он выйдет, его принудят покупать новый билет. Боже упаси людей, которые имеют проблемы с пищеварением от посещения вашего учреждения! Я так понимаю, вы ожидаете, что посетители музея будут пробегать всю экспозицию рысцой, бросая лишь мимолетный взгляд на экспонаты, не пытаясь ни понять эпоху, ни прочитать информацию о них.

В Государственном центральном музее современной истории России я была уже не первый раз. К моему величайшему изумлению, сам музей на меня особого впечатления не производит. А выставки там очень интересные! Музей же мне показался скромным в плане экспонатов. И скомканным что ли…. А бо́льшая часть музея - вообще моя жизнь 😂 Даже подумать не могла, что спустя ровно (!!) 40 лет буду вновь смотреть кадры с похорон Л.И. Брежнева 😳
В одном из залов нам встретился робот Клиоша)) Он что-то рассказывал. Что именно, мы не успели понять, т.к. я имела неосторожность подойти к нему слишком близко. Смотритель музея предупредила, но было уже поздно. Робот сбился, потерялся и прекратил свой рассказ((( Стал жалобно просить устранить препятствие)))
В этот раз целью посещения музея была выставка «Царская забава» к 185-летию железных дорог России. Довольно интересная, но мне опять же не хватило экспонатов, т.к. в основном она состояла из текстов и медиа файлов.
Шикарная выставка была «Иные миры» картин Никаса Сафронова! Замечательная была выставка истории шоколада.
Дом Хераскова, он же Дворец Разумовского, он же Английский клуб, он же Центральный музей Революции СССР, он же Музей Революции, он же Музей современной истории России. Здание очень примечательное, построено в 1780 году. Оно перестраивалось, дополнялось, украшалось. В некоторых местах сохранилась роскошная внутренняя отделка! Сохранились мраморные колонны, лепнина, мраморная лестница с коваными решетками, плафоны с живописью… Я на это смотрела с не меньшей радостью, чем на экспозицию музея.
Думаю, музей сто́ит посещения. Все ж историю свою надо знать.

Удивлены и возмущены урезаной экспозицией, где не нашлось место революции 1905 года как вехи в жизни страны, напрочь отсутствует экспозиция Февральской и Октябрьской революций, Великой Отечественной войны, не говоря про период сталинизма (в каком-либо формате)...На обращение с вопросом об этом к служащим получили ответ о, якобы, реставрации экспозиции (ага. всех сразу....)) в том числе исчезнувшего от входа броневика (это как раз возможно).... Печально...

Для меня (не знаю, как для других) современная история России началась с развала СССР. Концепция музея вообще не соответствует названию. Стоит только посмотреть филиалы музея: Пресня (революции 1905 и 1917 гг), квартира Кржижановского (революционный и государственный деятель), Подпольная типография - это все про революцию. Филиалы "Катынь" и "Медное" - это Великая отечественная. А каким боком еще и музей Евтушенко - вообще не поддается объяснению. Рассматривание экспозиции вызвало огромное недоумение: карта расширения Руси от Московского княжества, Первая мировая и т.д. Все время в голове вертелась фраза: "Я его слепила из того, что было". Такое впечатление, что руководство музея осталось от музея революции, но думая, что изменив название и немного изменив экспозицию будут больше соответствовать времени.
Внуков своих я туда не поведу. И всем своим знакомым буду говорить, что поход в этот музей - потеря времени.

It's an interesting museum where you can read main facts about russian history from end of 19th century till nowadays. However the exposition is in russian language mostly. On the other hand this museum is located in an English Moscow Club mansion so it would be interesting to walk there anyway.
Also it's located close to Tverskaya metro station so if you don't like it you are ready to go anywhere else.

Экспозиция весьма средняя, ничего особенно запоминающегося в ней нет. Самое "вау" это наверное скафандр космонавта Гречко. Исторический период охватывает диапазон с середины 19 века по настоящее время. Часа на посещение музея вполне достаточно. Есть еще часть музея, отведенная для посещения только экскурсионными группами за отдельную плату, где вам расскажут именно про историю здания, в котором находился английский клуб. Возможно, там побогаче интерьеры, и более интересное содержание, не знаю

I was very excited about this visit, but it didn't live up to expectations. The museum is set in a building previously belonging to an aristocrat, it used to be the English Moscow Club. It saves quite a lot of its original grandeur. The main issue is that English translation is hardly every available; so non-Russian speakers will lose quite a lot of the historic bits. Still, there are so many fascinating objects that don't require translation, like a room devoted to all the presents received by Stalin in his function of head of state. A poster represeing the political situation in Europe at the end of the 19th century, in which every country is portrayed through a caricature of its leader. Also very interesting are the last rooms, where a video portrays post-communist Russia. It offers a view of which image Russia wants to offer to the world (in fact the video is in English). I am afraid I have missed the Russian music section. The section on the Stalin year was under re-construction. In fact, this museum was originally named "Museum of Revolution", but the name was changed into the current one for obvious political reasons. As every Russian museum, all information is censored / doctored, so it is clear that Putin's aides are re-thinking their portrayal of the Stalin period. This is what you will find in every Russian museum. I would say that this is better than others in many respects. I spent 2 hours even without being able to read all the explanations. I can envisage Russian speakers or tourists with a Russian guide to spend even longer.
