Highly recommend Masa and Kohno Taxi for touring Kyoto. My wife and I booked at the last minute, Masa communicated quickly and clearly about availability and details. He is knowledgeable and personable with a pleasant sense of humor. Struck a perfect balance of walking us through sites and giving us cultural and historic context, and then leaving us time to explore on our own. Couldn't have been happier with the experience.

We're a group of 9 people with 4 elderly so using the bus on our tour around Kyoto wasn't an option especially if your trip falls on a weekend. Good thing I stumbled upon Masa's n-quest private tour website. We exchanged mails and I was a bit skeptical at first since we only talked for a few occasions until the very day of our trip came. Masa was there at our agreed pickup point all prepped up! We actually rented an AIRBNB house so we chose a hotel closest to us as pickup location. Masa's van was quite spacious even if we're 9. He also speaks English like a pro and so we asked him why. Turns out he worked in the US for quite some time. We visited around 5 separate locations that day and for every place, Masa gives us a detailed and interesting info about each attraction and Kyoto as a whole. He even came in with us in some locations. We just wowed on how amazing he is as a guide and even as a driver. Parking at Japan seems like a struggle considering how narrow the parking area is but looking at Masa, he parked like a boss! *lol* What's more, he's also a great storyteller that he could perform in a rakugo ^-^ Overall, we're super glad we had Masa as our guide around the ancient city of Kyoto. He made our trip extra special! At the end of our tour, we asked him if we could have a photo together. Obviously, he agreed but what surprised us even more is he came out of the van with our national flag! We really had a good laugh (and we're moved at the same time) ^^. Indeed, I agree with the Tripadvisor reviews here. I've actually read them before booking for him, w/c had me curious how everyone gave him 5 stars. And now, we have experienced his service first hand and saw him clearly right before our eyes. We definitely and highly recommend Masa :)

We were picked up from the Kyoto Shinkansen station in a large, air-conditioned van that smelled like flowers and had wifi. We knew from that moment that we were going to have a great time during our tours with Masa.
Masa knows Kyoto like the back of his hand. In fact, we began to refer to the amount of time it would take to get from place to place as "Masa time," which could calculated by taking the Google Maps time and cutting it by almost half. This was achieved by Masa's impressive shortcuts, taking us off the beaten path and through the foundations of the city's culture.
Masa's best aspects include his excellent English, his ability to suggest ideas on where to visit on a certain day, and knowledge allowing him explain why to visit a spot. He is not just a driver but a tour guide as well. What sets him apart from other tour guides, however, is in his approach. Masa does a superb job of negotiating when to go with his group and when to leave them to explore. Too often, tour guides either just drop their groups off to wander aimlessly or helicopter parent their groups to madness. Masa finds a perfect balance and explains enough of the cultural significance of a site to allow for exploring without him dictating how long to do something. This allows for enough breathing room to have a truly personalized tour of Kyoto.
All in all, we would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to truly experience and understand not only the ancient culture of Japan, but the impact that the country's history has on the modern culture.

We booked a Day tour to Kyoto on our tour of Osaka online. And paid online months before the tour. On day of tour we were greeted by Mr Masayuki himself with a van for 9 even though we have 6 persons. The drive was comfortable and he was most obliging, helpful and patient as we have someone on a wheelchair. He brought us to the places we wanted to see and was helpful in providing information n finding alternative places for food. It was very fruitful n satisfying to receive such great personal service. Thanks Mr Masa for making our day a very pleasant one. If we ever come to Osaka again, you will be our first choice for a tour guide/company. A deep Japanese bow TP you, sir! Strongly recommend.

While staying in Tokyo, we wanted to spend a full day in Kyoto. Traveling with three children (ages 12, 8 and 5) in the summer heat makes it difficult to visit more than 1-2 sights, especially those that involve a lot of walking. Masa scheduled Mr. Fujimoto to meet us in a spacious, air-conditioned van at the bullet train station at 10:30 am. He first took us to a wonderful noodle restaurant where we were able to see the chefs making noodles from scratch. We then visited Nijo Castle, the Golden Pavilion, a few other sights including Fushimi Inari, Ryoanji Temple, then two quick stops in Gion for photos and shopping. Mr. Fujimoto was a gracious guide who shared a lot of information about the sights and Kyoto's history and culture. He also briefed us on certain rules, like where it is acceptable to take a photo at shrines, directed us to restrooms, translated the kids' fortunes and took many photos of the whole family with our cameras. And the kids were happy to cool off in an air-conditioned van between sights. He delivered us back to the station in time to buy our bento box dinners for the train ride home. It was a wonderful visit, the best way to see Kyoto if you have just one day!

There are some sights in Kyoto that are just not easily accessible by train or subway. Masa was able to take our family of 5 to the Golden Pavillion, the Ryoangi Temple and the Bamboo Forest as well as drive by multiple sights in Kyoto in under 4 hours. I would recommend his services without reservation (well... you need to make a reservation oh, you know what I mean!).

my family (7 people) wanted to explore kyoto and Nara in one day. I was glad that i had booked Khono Taxi. Instead of all the fuss of walking and changing train, we were picked up at our hotel. Mr. Masa, our driver and tour guide arrived earlier. He spokes good English and very accommodating . We booked for 8 hours trip. He arranged all interesting possible places to visit in 8 hour without neglecting our needs. His van is very comfortable, spacious and clean. Because we also requested to visit Nara, we had little time to enjoy more in every places we went. We wished we can extend time, but unfortunately Mr. Mara already had other engagement. Overall, we had a great day and can max our time in Kyoto and Nara, Thanks to Mr. Masa. I highly recommend Khono Jumbo Taxi.

Our family of six wanted to go on a day trip to Kyoto and Nara but didn't want to travel with a bus-full of fellow tourists, so we decided to book Masa/N-Quest Tour as our private transportation and guide.
From our initial email exchanges, I could already tell that he is extremely professional, prompt, and accommodating.
We agreed on a pick-up and drop-off point and he was there on time and welcomed us with a big smile.
His vehicle is spacious and well-maintained. We were very comfortable and his driving was careful and smooth.
We were able to maximize our day with the help of Masa-san, squeezing Arashiyama, central Kyoto, and Nara in 8 hours.
He toured us inside Nijō Castle and for the other sites, we were on our own, but Masa is able to explain the essential information about the sites prior to our arrival there.
This option is definitely a great value if you're looking to visit places that aren't easily accessible by public transport and couldn't afford to waste precious time by walking and waiting around.

I was travelling with my family (5 persons) to Japan and needed assistance on transport services in Kyoto. Mr Masa was excellent. I wrote to him and although he was fully booked due to the Sakura season, he managed to arrange english speaking drivers for us. They were tremendously helpful. The dont only drive, they were like our tour guides, so accommodative and so informative. They even ensured that my young son is fully taken care of by the Pharmacist as he developed dry lips fro the dry weather. Thank you Masa San! Will recommend your company to all my friends!

We were 4 persons booking Kohno Taxi when we arrived in Kyoto in the end of October 2015 and that was the perfect way of seeing Kyoto in the short time we had. Mr MASAyuki KOHNO were waiting outside the trainstation as agreed and drove us around Kyoto as well as giving us a tour of what the city had to offer. Very comfortable car that fit all 4 of us as well as our luggage. We booked Mr MASAyuki KOHNO for 5 hours in total and so happy we did that. Mr MASAyuki KOHNO was such a nice person and professional driver. Five stars!

Hello There! We are a family of 6 traveling together - including 2 older adults and were wondering if we can book a private tour to take us to some of the main sights of Kyoto including the bamboo Forest? We are arriving today 2 nd April. How much will the tour cost?

We will be arriving by ship, docking in Kobe at 9 am on 22 March, and leaving at 6 pm 23 March. Are you available on those dates? What is the best way to spend our time? Should we try to stay at a hotel in Kyoto or return to the ship?
We are particularly interested in the Gion area, Zen rock gardens and the Fushimi Inari shrine.
