This small Chinese temple is a remarkable institution at Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown. Nicely maintained, it is a small place to understand the history of Chinese immigration in the Malaysian capital. Fortunately it is not a touristy place.

Este pequeño templo oriental en la ciudad de Kuala Lumpur destaca por su belleza. Esta en Chinatown, con mucho colorido y bien mantenido. Vale la pena visitarlo si se está en la zona.

My wife and I visited this temple as part of our visit to Chinatown, during our recent holiday in Kuala Lumpur.
We are not religious. Merely curious to have a look. We took a few photographs and left.

Walking around and stumbled upon this temple situated right beside some modern building. I read that this temple had a long history. Very typical architecture of a Chinese temple and they worship Guan Di and that was most probably why the name. Worth a short visit to soak into the history of the vicinity, which is China town.

Бродили по китайскому кварталу, сфотографировали красивый дом и ушли. Странно, но мы искали этот дом. Очень красиво выглядит, жаль, что мы не зашли внутрь.

The red faced, green clad God's name is hard to translate into English because with Guan Di spelling it sounds more Spanish than Chinese. In some versions its mashed together like Guandi which is close to Gandhi. What the name truly stands for or which faith Buddhism, Taoism or Confucianism is it more sacred to, only a native Chinese historian can tell.
But anyway Guan Di was a military general in 3rd century ancient China and because of his fierce reputation, bravery and fighting spirit, in mythology is considered a god of war as well as literature that army, police and even mafias pray to. Now who wins this battle of prayer between evil or good is totally up to the mercy of god himself who apparently grants wishes to those with pure heart, mind and soul.
The temple itself is beautiful with vibrant colours and incense smells all around. The usual dragons, lions and other statues are plenty that are doing the double duty of making the temple look beautiful and keeping off evil forces from entering and disrupting the prayer. There is also a heavy copper made sword available for worshipers that is said to have powers to turn one's luck around.
