Our cruise line offered a tour to the Opera House that included a performance for the passengers from our ship only. The performance was jazz, not opera, and it was awesome. It was a trip highlight. The Opera House is very beautiful inside and out. It is the jewel of this very large and bustling city. I would recommend visiting the opera house on a tour if you cannot see a performance. It is worth the visit, especially during the day when you can view the dome that is covered with 36,000 decorated ceramic tiles.

O teatro é lindo, a atração do dia era uma ópera bem montada e a experiência foi muita rica. Outra atração imperdível na cidade de Manaus. O acesso é bem organizado e as entradas podem ser adquiridas pela internet.

Local com bela arquitetura e importância histórica. Assisti jazz no teatro. Entretanto, cheiro forte de tecido envelhecido e limpeza dos tecidos me pareceu prejudicada. Atente-se se for alérgico a ácaros ou fungos. Ar condicionado bastante frio. Se for assistir a um espetáculo, leve casaco. Se muito alérgico, melhor evitar assistir algum evento.

O teatro é um encanto e muito bem preservado na sua última restauração. Pinturas fascinantes nas paredes e tetos. O chão é um espetáculo com variedades de madeiras (principalmente o pau Brasil). Esculturas de bronze belíssimas.

Tem horários fixos, mas não há necessidade de agendamento, como o tour que eles fazem não é demorado, rapidinho você consegue concluir a visitação.

As other responders have said, you'll need to go to the theatre on arrival, or to the tourist information office on the opposite side of the theatre square. There are some free performances of music and drama. The free tour (in Portuguese) is good. On our visit we were allowed to watch 5 minutes of a symphony orchestra in rehearsal - wonderful. I hope you enjoy Manaus as much as we did.
