Pas très loin de la gigantesque pagode de briques mais nous avons d’abord cru qu’il s’agissait d’éléphants !

Miała być największa pagoda , wielki dzwon to i lwy przed pagodą musiały być potężne .Świątynię zaczęto budować 1791 roku . Majestatyczne lwy zwane chinthe budowano od roku 1794 . Wykonane były z cegieł i pokryte gipsem . Jednak olbrzymie trzęsienie ziemi z 23.03.1839 doprowadziło do znacznego ich zniszczenia .Do dzisiaj przetrwały tylko masywne korpusy z ogonami . Dla mnie [ miłośnika słoni ] może tylko symbolicznie , ale bardziej wyglądają na słonie i od razu darze je sympatią. Szkoda ,że są takie zniszczone .

Vicino alla grande pagoda incompiuta ci sono anche queste due monumentali strutture che avrebbero dovuto essere I Leoni posti a guardia del suo ingresso. Impressionanti per dimensioni e in linea con il gigantismo della pagoda ma lasciati a mezzo e poco più che una curiosità.

These two huge lumps of rock, which at first glance look like ruined elephants, are in fact, the ruined haunches of a pair of Chininthes (sacred lion images) which are seen all over Burma as the sentinels of the pagodas, stupas and temples. So if you think that these are ONLY their haunches, just imagine how enormous the never finished products would have been. Then you can start to picture the scale of the great ruined Stupa across the road, which they relate to. It's staggering! What a project..........they still look like elephants to me.

The huge stone lions are destroyed so only the rear end with the tail is remaining. The front half is completely gone.

Queste figure gigantesche metà leone e metà drago, semidistrutte dovevano proteggere il santuario. Cosa dire?Un tassello in più per comprendere almeno un poco la storia millenaria di Burma, il nome inglese della Birmania per troppo tempo sconosciuta ai più.

There are two giant Lions of Stone. Unfortunately, an earthquake messed them up badly. 10-15 minutes will be plenty of time here. Then you can walk across the street to the Pahtodawgyi Temple which is more interesting.

Wenn man Minung besucht, kommt man auch diesen beiden zwei grossen Steinen vorbei. Sie sollen Löwen darstellen. Aktuell ist aber, auch mit viel Phantasie, keine Löwen mehr erkennbar. Heute sind einfach zwei grosse Steine, uns somit nicht wirklich etwas spezielles und man verpasst nicht wirklich viel, wenn man es nicht gesehen hat.

This is a must see if you visit Mingun Pahtodawgyi as the lions of stone is about 100m from the stupa. Unfortunately the original structure was destroyed by an earthquake.

The unfinished pagoda has unfinished defenders. I wonder what height these lions should have turned out to be.
