Pleasant experience in the middle: the first 4 hours of travel (crossing Lake Torle Sap and visiting floating villages) is very beautiful and characteristic. Travel conditions are not very comfortable , but it is part of the experience and definitely deserves.
The last 2 hours (after a short break on a refreshment point on the water) continue on a very narrow river and for this reason the boat goes very slowly and the landscape does not give anything but piles of plastic on the banks.
But the worst comes in the end when you are dumped on any embankment a means of mud (even suitcases of course) and assaulted by many locals who scream to get your attention and make you take their tuk tuk (this despite booking on their official site is specified that the transfer to the hotel in Battanbang is included in the price of $ 35 per person).
In hindsight I would definitely have made a shorter experience to visit the floating villages from Siem reap avoiding the night in Battambag , a city that I did not like at all.
That's too bad.

Reading the reviews below and other accounts on the web, I booked the trip for our family with much hesitation and some trepidation. I could not be more happy that we did.
Admittedly, we were lucky. Given the low season, the boat was all to ourselves, another couple of tourists and later a floating villager on her local commute. Temperature was hot but bearable, we did not suffer from mosquitoes.
The 7.5 hours went quickly and I was sorry when it finished. Views are beautiful and and the trip allows you to watch a completely un-touristy slice of Cambodia up close as you sail through these rural fluvial communities: fishermen readying their nets, elders resting on hammocks, groups of children returning from school by boat, at lunchtime the scent of simmering curries. At the one stop, where the boat captain is fed with some deference, we had a bowl of stew and an excellent spicy green omelette. Watching the longboat powered by a primitive outboard engine negotiate the thick river vegetation and the narrow bends was a spectacle to behold.
It is of course a long and uncomfortable trip, but at least in the mild circumstances that we encountered, I would recommend it highly.

Wish we read previous reviews on Google before going on the trip. It's a tourist rip off I am afraid to say. 8 tourists went from BB to SR on the boat. $30 each for the journey including hotel transfer in BB. Journey to ferry port was about 30 minutes as it is low water season. Boat journey was long (8 hours as we had expected) with two stops for toilet and lunch (and tourist shop), sat on an uncomfortable plastic seat on the boat - bring a cushion if you decide to do the journey. Scenery was pleasant but after an hour thats plenty and seen enough, scenery doesn't change too much (eg homes on stilts, birds, locals on boats and the river bank). What was unexpected and annoying as none of us were made aware when booking, when we arrived in SR (allegedly) and we were off loaded they then told us we had to pay for a tuk Tuk into SR for $8 each, plus it was a further 30 minutes into SR itself. None of us were pleased about this as we had not been made aware. We eventually managed to negotiate $6 each. Some of the people refused to pay when they arrived in SR. We did pay as we felt it wasn't the tuk Tuk drivers fault, but he did overcharge and try to rip us off.
We wouldnt recommend the boat trip. It's a long journey, not particularly comfortable and the scenery is nice but doesn't change a great deal. In hindsite I would travel by bus and go on a river trip to see the homes on stilts. BTW we didn't see or go on the tonle sap lake either, we were diverted off before this.

It is a real experience that allows you to get to know the Cambodian reality a little more closely and in particular those who live on the river.
Of course it's not a ferry as we know it, it's a large boat with benches or if you're lucky like we were, plastic chairs that can then be oriented to enjoy the landscape.
The navigation is long (in our case, it lasted 8 hours without any problems) and only includes a stop in a small boat
floating place on the river where you can go to the toilet and drink something cool.
During the navigation you will be rewarded for the inconvenience by wonderful landscapes and by the encounter with small boats that come alongside to entrust the captain with packages to be delivered and to board passengers who live on the houseboats.
A beautiful experience!

We used the route from Siem Reap to Battambang. Boarding was very good, with a well-positioned pier, they picked us up at the hotel, great.
The trip itself is quite good, although it is a bit long, 7 hours in August, you see the life of the river, many floating towns, etc.
Cambodians use the same boat to transport goods, which can be a little uncomfortable since the boxes take up the seating area, but it's funny.
He makes a small stop halfway through for about 20 minutes to eat something.
But the landing was a disaster. They stopped us on the bank of the river, without even a few boards, full of mud, with our suitcases, and they have agreed with a tuk tuk, only for foreigners, to take you to your accommodation, charging you €5 per person. About four times more than normal. According to the driver because that's how the government orders it. Moonshine. On the website they do not warn you about this last leg of the trip. The Cambodians pay in cash at the end of the trip, I suppose with a cheaper amount than the one on the website, and they let them take a normal tuk tuk at the end.

The best way to discover the Tonle Sap river and the lake ! The trip started at Battanbang until Siem Reap. We crossed floating villages (and saw a house moving !), water lentils fields, we saw lots of beautiful birds and landscapes. The trip is long but permits you to really enjoy the lake. Also to my mind it is better than just noon trip from Siem Reap. With the trip Battambang - Siem Reap (or the other sense), you feel more confortable, it is a way to moove from a city to another, you can see lots of villages and don’t feel like a peeper.
Moreover, the organisation was perfect, we didn’t success to book by internet but everything was done just with a call and WhatsApp. The pick up service in our hotel were in time, with a driver who was speaking fluently English, he gave us lots of informations.

THEY STOLE OUR MONEY!
We called this company hoping to book a boat from Phnom Penh to Siem reap. They said the boat wasn't running but offered a car service with 3 tourist stops on the way and English speaking driver. When we arrived in Siem Reap there were two guys waiting for us. I gave him 100 (just to change into smaller denominations) and my friend gave him 100 to pay for the trip. He then put the money in his pocket and said I have to check for fake money and take a picture and took money back out again. But this is when he switched the bills. The new money was definitely fake to the touch and look and said khmer copy which we had never seen before and never felt tthis fake plastic feeling which was immediately obvious and we didn't feel this when touching our money any other time or handing it to him. He said check the rest of your money. My friend had a third fake bill on him which confused us. But then he realized a bunch more of his Chinese money was stolen and missing that day and the only place he left it alone was on the car with the driver. None of the rest of our money was counterfeit. We had never exchanged 100s in Cambodia. He tried to say that we got scammed in an exchange because it's Chinese new year but his assumption was that we had exchanged money in Cambodia. We had only arrived in Cambodia the day before. All the money was exchanged in China at the bank of china in one transaction. He still tried to blame the Chinese but why would the bank of China steal 300 dollars out of thousands of dollars (my friend had already been traveling to other countries so had exchanged a lot). Only the money that was accessible or touched by them that day had been switched / stolen. Nothing else. He said he was calling the police. We tried to call the police ourselves but the guesthouse operator said the police are corrupt and would just ask for more money and trouble. In the meantime he was saying he was calling the police supposedly but I didn't really believe him. When he handed me the phone the caller ID was not a short emergency number like 911 or 110. It was just a normal phone number (also his other friend was gone at this point). The other person was aggressive and accusatory immediately and said he will come and we'll be arrested for having counterfeit bills on us. He had no interest in hearing a second side of the story, only threatening to arrest us. My friends at this time had decided we were in a lose lose situation anyways and gave them the new 200$ that he wanted anyways just to get rid of him, carry on with our trip and avoid a fight or dealing with corrupt police. He then left.
As for the trip itself it was mediocre. The drive could not speak any English at all. 0. Contrary to what was promised. He didn't even understand basic body language or gestures. We had been asking to stop to eat for 4 hours. He didn't want to stop much at all and then we he did stop at his friends business which he was "surprised" to find out had no food he wanted to lay in the hammock and chat with his friends even though we were starving and wanted to go to the restaurant. Even once we were stopped at a site and I said drink with gesture. He motioned to get in the car as if to say he'll drive us to the store which was just across the street but instead he still continued for hours while my friend was continuously motioning and saying food, eat, hungry. The three tourist sites were mediocre. We passed much more beautiful looking places, passed open restaurants.
They are THIEVES. DON'T BOOK WITH THEM.

One of the top highlights of my Cambodian travel was going from Battambang to Siem Reap by boat.
Keep in mind this is like to local bus for the villages on the river and is an authentic experience. The boat is not fitted out for soft tourists looking for deluxe travel. There is a toilet on board but not one you would use unless you had no choice.
Get up early, eat and prepare for a long journey with one toilet break, [take your loo own paper] and pack food if you are afraid to eat locally cooked food at the stop on the way.
Take sunscreen, a hat and a jacket; you can sit on top if you're lucky or agile. I even took a pillow to sit on for the deck so I could take photos on the way. I loved every minute because I was well prepared. I brought earplugs too. Sit up as far as the front as you can the engine is at the back.
Now, that may sound like a lot to put you off, but it's not its to help you be well-equipped and manage your expectations for a great day. I'd do it a gain in a heartbeat.

Hi everyone. Using this method and transport from Siem Reap to Battambang seems interesting and different. From what I have read, the trip total is about 6hrs from Siem Reap to Battambang. What's attracting me is the scenery experienced along the way. We have a range of different ages in our group and just wondering if it is worth taking this option opposed to The Mekong Express Bus or just booking a minivan. We need to take into consideration the comfort also as the vessel looks basic (not meaning to sound rude here). Also I assume we would need to take our own water and food. Doesn't both me at all and I love the experience but checking for others. Thank you

Hi, if you have done this trip recently did you book your ticket online in advance or just turn up at the pier on the day? Many thanks
เขียนเมื่อ 8 มกราคม 2019
Our hotel in Battambang booked it for us. They say that you can book at the pier, even on the day - but our boat was quite busy and it's best to book ahead if you want to be certain.

I'm thinking about taking this boat from Siem Reap to Battambang in the next days (so end of March). I'm traveling for a while and have this way too big backpack with a smaller one for my computer. Considering the dry season and the possibles in and outs if we get stuck, would you say it's still enjoyable?
Many thanks!

Hi
We took this trip 5 days ago Battambang to Siem Reap. The trip down to the boat has steps, wooden ones, Battambang end, that if you are ok with you backpack on your back would be fine with but if you feel a bit unsteady for a dollar they will take a bag down.
At Siem Reap end you are on a dock and can easily get bags off and the steps up are concrete ones. Assume if you do the route in reverse help is available too.
I don’t think the water gets so low you get stuck, I assume they wouldn’t run it if it was in doubt so I wouldn’t worry about that

Hi
We intend to do the boat trip from Battambang in a couple of days time. I’m aware due to tides we won’t get near town. Does anyone know recently a fair price to get into town, there will be 2 of us and our experience of tuk Tuk’s on arrival anywhere here has been chaotic and a bit stressful so an idea on fair price would be great. Thanks
เขียนเมื่อ 13 มีนาคม 2018
The docking port further into town is no longer in use. You have no choice but to be dropped off about 10/11 km away from town. The price is fixed but they have a central drop of point. For a small extra fee they usually will take you to your place of lodgings. Be careful the bank is quite steep but there are stairs, if you prefer. Sometimes a person will offer to help you, but it will be for a fee!
