The climb to this hill with a thousand surprises with 38 ° and 80% humidity is not easy but it is also worth it here. We were here in December 2023 as part of an organised tour.
The complex is a short drive out of the town. Luckily, we had a 4x4 pick up to drive us up to the temple to save our legs, which was great. At the top is the temple complex, including the killing caves. Despite the tragic loss of life here, the place is very serene, especially at sunset, with amazing views over the valley.
Across to the summit, there is another good look out point and also some leftover artillery guns from the war.

History and religion place. Best to see bat cave with sunset. it's amazing when the bats flying from cave.

Others have spoken about the climb up, the pagoda, the killing caves and the bats so I’ll just comment on the complaints some people have made re litter and scams etc. I walked up the steps and once I arrived at the top no children (or adults) pestered me to be my guide sell me stuff etc. Also as for litter it didn’t seem too bad; I certainly didn’t think this was built on top of a rubbish tip. Even though it was the middle of the dry season the top was quite empty, only about a 6 or so other tourists.
The killing caves were busier but not heaving. One point, there is a sign by the monk saying please take off your shoes as this is also a shrine. Very few tourists were doing that. The bat area was busy, but it can accommodate over 100 people without it being a squeeze, and as of Jan 23 the bats start leaving just before 6pm.

A bit far from city Battambang and it possible to get there by car or tuk tuk but it better to car. There are to entrance to go up, one is by clime up stairs and another by walking road but be aware of money, it is quite dangerous, there are a few carved around mountain and bat cave is interested but have to wait until around sunset time that bat fly out the cave.

I'd love to have given this site 4 stars for the amazing views, however there is so much rubbish strewn all around the place - what is supposedly a religious site - that it really detracts from the experience.

Firstly, I want to warn that the whole mountain is full of people trying to extract/scam cash from tourists so beware at all times. PLEASE be careful and don't trust strangers.
Actually that applies to all of Cambodia.
I paid $15 for my accommodation tuktuk driver to take me here for a half day tour.
The view from the top is absolutely stunning. You see an endless panorama of beautiful tropical countryside stretching all the way to Thailand. Worth it just for the views actually.
Then you have the caves and their gruesome history which is utterly fascinating.
The kids will offer to be your guides but of course you have to pay them, but then their adult minders try to get more cash out of you when you return.
There is a booth at the base of the mountain which asks for an entrance fee. It seems to be legit but my tuktuk driver got me through without having to pay.
At the top there is a nice big temple and hundreds of monkeys. I found a toilet up there with what must be the best toilet view in the world !! The views are to die for.
I walked to the top of the mountain. You need to be reasonably fit to do that in 35 degree heat but I enjoyed it. If you want to hire a driver to take you up, just be careful not to be ripped off. Negotiate carefully.
Yes it is sad to see the mountain covered in trash. Honestly, you would think that such a spiritual site would not be neglected like this, but it is. Even at the temple, bottles are just thrown down the bank.
I recommend hiring a good guide to explain the history of the whole site and what you are looking at, as there are no good descriptions or signs for information.
After a few hours on the mountain, you can come down in the evening to see the bats leaving the caves.
You can sit at a table and have food/beer (including a plate of snails). Fantastic experience and definitely the highlight of Battambang and actually my favorite activity during my whole Cambodia 2 week trip.

There are couple of things around here to do. There are 3 different caves here Pkasla, Lakhaon and Aksopheak and to go from one place to another - you have 2 options:-
a) Open Jeep
b) Walk
Suggest to take open jeep as there is a natural spectacle you don't want to miss which is 10000s of bats coming out of there cave and to be in place at right time you must be fast to see other places.
So it runs like - you take jeep and you visit various caves including kiling cave where 1000s of skulls of locals are still there from Khmer regime. Then there are few other caves and temple (nothing great) and at one place you will find many monkeys.
Once your done come back to point zero and you will see many restaurants lining up small chairs and trying to pull crowd, this all is for that bat spectacle.
We took one restaurant which had a terrace sitting area so can have better look at movement of bats. Its all choice but you have to buy something to take seat (may be a coke).
The best part of this tour is this Bat Spectacle and you will amazed to see so many bats flying together out the big cave creating massive formation of dark, black clouds. Truly amazing.
Must visit place for Bat Spectacle.

A lot to explore here. A lot of walking too so don’t forget your water, however you can purchase endless drinks and snacks here. Plenty of stalls. Caves to experience, views to be seen, gorgeous temple on the top of the mountain! Can you spot the World War II machines? The killing caves are also here. Not to mention the upcoming famous bat cave on ground level! Spend at least half a day here! Be careful if you drive up on a moped as hills can be quite steep.

Hi, where do I have to be in order to see all the bats flying out of the caves? Are there any specific location or i just have to be at the bottom or summit of the mountain?

At the bottom. You can't miss it, you and hundreds of other tourists will be there. There are street stall with drinks and food and chairs to sit and wait at. All the tuk tuk drivers gather at the end of the street waiting for the tourists to finish. Try and get close to the hole where they stream out of, and walk around a little to get the best view when it starts. Don't worry, you will know where to go when you get there.
