A very nice collection of Khmer sculptures and lintels from the Angkorian period, collected from the various prasats in Battambang province. Very pleasant visit. Entry ticket $1.

The museum is quite sweet and has many historical artefacts. There are some interesting pieces and it doesn’t take too longer to get around.

I just saw that my previous review of this museum is 3 years old. Since, it was closed for several years for an extensive renovation, funded by FOXC -- friends of Cambodian culture. It recently reopened, and today is Cambodia's finest provincial museum, with an extensive -- and exquisite -- collection of both pre-Angkorian and Angkorian stone carvings. There is also a corner for pre-history, and a few pottery examples. Definitely worth going, although the hours can be frustrating, with staff regularly arriving late, or closing without notice. Tues-Sun 9-12/2-5 pm are the official hours. Definitely don't miss this. Entry is just a dollar or two.

Das Museum bietet regionale Geschichte der Provinz sowie der Stadt, ist zwar recht klein aber sehr schön eingerichtet, vieles, gerade der Außenbereich wurde kürzlich erst neu gestaltet. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und der Eintritt wirklich günstig nur ist das Museum nicht wirklich auf "westliche" Besucher ausgerichtet oder besser vorbereitet, da könnten z. B. die Schrifttafeln in mehreren Sprachen erstellt werden, wie man es von guten, größeren Museen in der ganzen Welt eher kennt. Dennoch ein guter und leicht zu erreichender Ort während der Regenzeit.

Worth sparing the time and one dollar to visit. I Small museum, but with good commentary in Khmer and English, and some nice exhibits. They appear to have many more things in storage; maybe they will show them also at some point. We were told that we couldn't take photos, which is a bit nonsensical since almost everything they show is made of stone or pottery.

I tried to visit Battambang Provincial Museum during my trip but found it closed during the late morning despite these being advertised opening hours. There were staff there happily chatting to passers by, but none of them seemed to be interested in opening the museum. I was free to look around the small collection of statues and lingas in the grounds and these were interesting enough, but I get the impression opening times are kind of a relative concept here.

If you didn't manage to go to Angkor national museum in Siem Reap, or you liked it there and want to see more from that period then this museum is for you. Lovely collection of stonework and it will only cost you a dollar! Plus some sparkly clean toilets on site.

The Battambang Museum is one of Cambodia's best-loved and longest-run provincial museums whose dark ages lasted for several decades through civil wars. Grieve no longer! After more than a year of work, the Battambang Museum has just re-opened, and it's full of Angkorian objects. It also has an excellent prehistory exhibit based on the last decade of archaeological research at Laang Spean site (in Battambang) by a Khmer-Franco research project. Well worth a visit!

Situé à deux pas de la rivière Sangker qui traverse Battambang, le Musée provincial n'est ni impressionnant, ni très vaste.
On n'y visite tout au plus qu'une double pièce où sont exposés des éléments récupérés sur les sites pré-angkoriens et angkorien de la région, dont un très beau linteau au Vishnou allongé et quelques remarquables statues et pièces sculptées en bois.
Ce musée, très riche auparavant, a été transformé en prison sous le régimes des Khmèrs rouges et largement pillé.
On n'y visite tout au plus qu'une double pièce où sont exposés des éléments récupérés sur les sites pré-angkoriens et angkorien de la région, dont un très beau linteau au Vishnou allongé et quelques remarquables statues et pièces sculptées en bois.
