NOTES
Though we had planned a longer visit, we could only stay for a few minutes. We were immediately verbally accosted and at one time I thought we would be physically assaulted.
The vagrants in this park are very aggressive. They will not hesitate to swear at you, threaten you, and try to intimidate you. They will follow you around in a menacing manner. I would never bring a child or elder near this park.
Perhaps most troubling is that this a known issue. There are cameras all along the street. The City of Birmingham has chosen to turn a blind eye, and that is a crying shame.

I was a little concerned with all the reviews about the panhandlers, but we were able to take a quick walk around to see the statues and sculptures without a problem. After seeing the events that took place in the park while in the museum, it was Interesting to be in that spot with the statues showing some of what took place. The park is not essential, but it is worth a stop if you go to the museum.

The park is immediately across the street from the civil rights museum and the East 16th Street Baptist church.
Parking on the street is easy.
The park's main feature is the emotional statuary depicting the battles for civil rights in B'ham.

It would be a wonderful park, if it weren’t for the panhandlers. There are several statues/sculptures of people and events that took place during the civil rights movement. A walk with signage explaining the events of the “selective buying” and how children were involved. Very interesting.

I wasn't sure what to expect so may have been disappointed. There is some interesting statuary but not much else.

Very striking sculpture. There are four or five sculptures They are very moving. Park is next to the Civil Rights Institute and 16th Avenue Church.

The Children's Crusade is such an important part of understanding the civil rights fight in Birmingham, and Kelly Ingram Park has a great statue collection memorializing both the Crusade and other key events. However, I would not come here at night and I would not come here alone. Panhandlers are not afraid to approach you while you are looking at statues to ask for money. Several approached at different times, but one followed my family around and kept talking about his experience during the 60s while this was all happening, and then asked us for money. When we told him that we didn't have any, he talked about how Black Americans are never going to recover from Jim Crow. Then he asked if we could help him find somewhere to sleep. We quickly headed over to the Civil Rights Institute. We were not able to see or enjoy all the statues in the park.

After being told the 3:00 tour at the 16 street church was full, we ventured to the park. Only to be bombarded by two panhandlers. Never made it past the first statue memorial kiddy corner from the church. He followed us back to the church, and we abruptly left. Distraught and disappointed we did not feel the love…it is with great sadness that our experienced was unwelcoming. I was 8 1/2 in 63’, mature enough to understand, a lifetime of compassion will not be dishonored by the rudeness of a few.

Nice history walk, clean park, enjoyed to tour signage and walk. Wanted to tour 16th street church but BEWARE everything is closed on Monday

I visited this park after touring the amazing Birmingham Institute for Civil Rights. There are statues and monuments related to the civil rights movement.
