Hi Paul, That's a question we are asked fairly frequently.. To be honest, there's no real "season" for Whale Sharks in this region. They tend to come and go as they please although there does seem to be a peak around the full moon week throughout the year. This week we actually had what many long-term dive staff are regarding as a bit of a record, in which we had Whale Shark encounters for 8 days in a row at Sail Rock (in some cases there was 2 or even 3 individual sharks present at the same time!). I've kept a fairly extensive photographic record over the years and i'm also the Ecocean Whale Shark project coordinator for Thailand, and the historical data does show encounters in the region have been recorded in every month of the year. So, in conclusion... It's a bit of a lottery unfortunately due to not having a specific annual congregation period, meaning it's very difficult to say with any degree of confidence when they are most likely to appear. Although as i mentioned previously, there does appear to be a higher probability around the full moon week in any given month. I hope that helps. Best regards, Alan Duncan
