Toan was incredible! The whole day was amazing and everything we did was perfect. I highly recommend him to anyone on the fence about using a tour guide throughout Ninh Binh.

We took a motorbike tour with Toan and his driver. We wanted to avoid the party scene but still experience the Ha Giang Loop and Toan was fantastic -courteous and helpful from the start. He organised all our hotels and food and took us off the beaten track to explain the local customs and show us the way of life for the tribespeople of northern Vietnam.
We also did an amazing hike called the skywalk-the views were gorgeous .
This was the best experience of our trip.

We spent a fantastic day with Toan visiting the sights around Ninh Binh. He was friendly, knowledgeable and interesting and we learnt a lot from him about the region and Vietnamese culture. His English is perfect and he showed us some off the beaten track places we never would have found. The boat trip at Linh Coc was a highlight, both another tourist to be seen. We will definitely be back.

Without a doubt, 4 days with Toan in Pu Luong and Long Cốc was the best part of our 2 month trip across south east Asia. From our initial inquiry to the moment he dropped us off in Hanoi he was brilliant. He and his driver picked us up in Ninh Binh after our night train from Hue and from that moment we had a stunning 4 days of guided hikes with Toan. He is so knowledgeable about the area, the wildlife, the people and is fantastic company too.
He arranged homestays with very hospitable people, cooked us some of the best meals of our trip and always went above and beyond. If Toan hadn’t have done this we wouldn’t have been able to organise seeing this ourselves. We felt like we experienced the true rural Vietnam, and didn’t see another tourist for 4 days. We cannot emphasise enough how beautiful the scenery is. Simply unbelievable.
The hiking was well planned, ending at our evening’s homestay or by being picked up by our driver for the final drive of the day. When not hiking Toan had organised for us to have some needed chill time, an opportunity to swim at waterfalls or relaxed opportunities to meet local people (markets, pineapple farm, glass noodle factory, rubber tree farm etc).
Could not recommend more!

Toan 2 (T2) excellent guide, adapts the tour to the customer's needs, very present but never intrusive. Definitely the best tour in all of Vietnam.
Unfortunately we only did two days but I recommend three.
Driver, guide, accommodation all above expectations.
well done Toan

We did two one day tours with Toan (the younger cousin). The first was on the back of motor bikes to see local sights around Tam Coc, and the second via car to Cuc Phuong National Park (where amazingly we even saw a giant boa constrictor from the safety of the car)! Toan was extraordinarily knowledgeable, funny and friendly. From Vietnamese burial customs to the multiple uses of the lotus plant and water buffalo farming, he had something to teach us on every subject! He knew we were a little nervous about riding on motor bikes so made sure to start off slowly while we gained confidence. The tours proved to be a great way to see the local sights and gain more insight into life in Nin Binh. The included meals both days were enormous! The price of the tours was the same or less than you would pay for a group tour so were great value for money. We arranged the tours via email after filling out the contact section of the website. I highly recommend taking a tour with this funny and charming man.

I wrote to Toan two weeks out from our quick North Vietnam trip and told him the sights of Ninh Binh we (sister and 70 year old mum) would like to fit into one day with him, and our transfer from Hanoi in the morning. He organised an itinerary for us that would work at our pace, dodge the tour bus crowds and even included “off the beaten track REAL” Ninh Binh detour - where he grew up. Our day was INCREDIBLE.
Toan spoke such good English, was very knowledgeable, sweet and funny!
We learned so much. There was no comparison between going with a big tour group and this private tour.
We left early if we wanted at one sight and stayed a bit longer at another. And we paid LESS than some of the big tours, and included a private pickup from Hanoi in a very nice suv and safe driver.
I will recommend Toan to everyone.
Highlight of our trip.

My husband and I traveled by car with Toan and his driver around Tam Coc, to Phát Diệm Cathedral, and around Pu Luong. Toan also arranged for his driver to transport us from Hanoi and back. The whole experience was great! We had complete trust in both Toan and his driver, and I would very highly recommend them.
Toan is smart, knowledgeable and able to answer any question a traveler could ask. He has a great personality too, so it was a pleasure to spend a few days with him.
In addition to the curated travel hotspots Toan chose for us, he showed us around other small roadside family enterprises - a pineapple and rubber tree farm, a glass noodle manufacturer and a sugarcane processing operation - not for us to buy anything, just for the experience.
Toan was 100% flexible, consistently crafting and re-crafting experiences and the schedule to meet our needs. My husband had a bad cough, and though he wore a mask, he probably passed it on to Toan and the driver, but they never complained. Toan adjusted plans to better accomodate this issue and found a place for us to stay longer in Tam Coc, where medical care is better than in Pu Luong. Toan also dealt professionally and compassionately with a meltdown on our part due to a fear of dogs.
We're in our 60s and I'm not very nimble climbing up and down. (Toan hops around like the local mountain goats, by the way.) Toan arranged for the Pu Luong homestay to loan me bamboo walking sticks. Note that the homestay was up a mountain so the only way to hike around there was to go down a very steep and incredible slippery path. Toan was very patient with me though and it was an unforgetably beautiful landscape.
Other than our first lunch in Tam Coc, which was a (good) restaurant catering to tourists, Toan took us to local places that we never would have found on our own. At the homestay in Pu Luong, after dealing with us all day (which must have been tiring) in two hours, he whipped up a delicious dinner featuring perhaps eight dishes. As if that's not enough, many of the ingredients were produced organically on his family's farm. This included a bottle of homemade rice firewater. The proprietor contributed a bottle too. Then came out the big Vietnamese tobacco bong and karaoke. As the dinner group took on a couple more guys, my husband enjoyed a memorability evening of cross-national male bonding.
Speaking of the homestay, it had a lovely, open common area and the proprietor was as nice and welcoming as could be. However, I guess we are too accustomed to the comfortable life because, though our private hut with private bath was very clean, I admit it was a bit more rustic than I would have liked. It was certainly more comfortable than camping and perhaps more comfortable than many family homes in the area, so it might be just fine for you. However, if you aren't the type who's up for no heat or air conditioning, a difficult-to-navigate step down into the bathroom, sparse hot water, a bathroom sink that drains across the bathroom floor before going down a floor drain, no wifi (as expected), etc., maybe talk to Toan about upscaling your accomodation. Still it was an experience to remember and I mention it only to help you decide if it's for you or not.
We highly recommend touring with Toan.

Had a fabulous day with Toan, seeing some of the quieter parts of the Ninh Binh area. Over the course of the morning we cycled along tiny backroads, passing rice fields, and revelling in the generally gorgeous countryside, visited a local craftsman making knives from recycled metal (nothing to buy, just fascinating!) drank refreshing herb tea, visited a local temple, and ate the most enormous and delicious lunch in a village somewhere!
I’d originally enquired about going to Tam Coc, which was one of the options Toan offered - but we took up his alternative suggestion of Linh Coc for our afternoon river trip, which is close by but very considerably quieter. It was a fantastic choice. Really lovely - and rarely another boat to be seen (it’s a much shorter ride too at 1.5 hours - those seats are pretty unforgiving haha).
When I saw the extremely hot weather forecast for our day I’d been in some trepidation about the 500 steps up the mountain at Hang Mua cave - but it was also the thing that I most wanted to do in Ninh Binh! However, Toan timed things perfectly so that we did the climb in the late afternoon. It was still hot, but much less so, and also shaded by that point, making it very do-able (we are in our 60s). The views are truly breath-taking totally worth the fluid loss!
Toan was a great guide - very interesting to spend time with and full of terrific advice about our day.

Bonjour.
J'aimerais savoir s'il est possible de visiter cette réserve sans guide? Merci

You can go to pu luong without any instructions. If you are from Ninh Binh. You can go to Nho Quan town and then go to Chi Minh. Arrive in Cam Thuy town. Follow National Highway 217. Town (Canh nang ). Turn right in the direction of the high valley. continue to move in the direction( co Lung) . Waterfalls are great. Or you can stay in Puluongholiday. Here they have two languages. English and German. The walkie-talkie guide is free. Have a great holiday in Puluongholiday !!
