Petrichor Farms was recommended by one of my friends who volunteered there previously and visited again. I heard so many good things about it but after staying there for 04 days, I came to realise that the experience you get at Petrichor is something that will stay with you for a long time (if you are visiting with the right intention).
Petrichor Farms is a permaculture farm and a vegan place which Shweta and Sidhartha are running from 7 years now. They grow their own vegetables, use natural material for construction and even make their own organic soaps. The food prepared by Shweta is seriously the best vegan food I have had anywhere. Guests and volunteers participate in knowing about the permaculture way of living. I participated in making cob for the Turtle House that is under construction right now with all the recycled and locally sourced materials.
The people there are very warm and welcoming, Anupa and Poonam will always wander around with a smile on their face. There is a short hike of around 10-15minutes from roadhead to reach Petrichor Farm. Once you reach there you will immediately dwell in with the positivity of the place and its earthy feel all around. It is not a place of luxury but definitely a place for exotic food.
Watch out for the giant hornbills clinging on to the tree branches, it is a lovely sight.

My stay here on their permaculture retreat was lamentably too short. Siddharth and Sweta were wonderful, literally making me feel at home in a country that is O so far away from being that. The experience on offer is highly integrative. Right from the materials used in your accommodation to their method of cultivation, this is all backed by a wealth of knowledge that the two collectively wield, all stemming from an ethic to live sustainably, locally and ultimately in harmony with nature. I think this was the best possible placed that I could have stayed to restore both body and mind before heading for a mountaineering course (which was great :). If being immersed in nature, learning to live according to its principles and hearing some heartening stories sounds like something for you, then you will love this place. I hope to go back and volunteer there one day.

A friend and I wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of Kolkata and spend the weekend in a calm and cool place, close to nature, and maybe stroll through some tea plantations. I stumbled upon Petrichor by pure chance, was intrigued by the concept and the pictures and booked the "Simplicity"-room for two nights. And I must say: We couldn't have been any happier with our choice!
*How we got there*
Before arriving, Sidhartha and Sweta had provided us with enough information on how to get there and with their contact details, in case we would have trouble finding it. We had taken an overnight train from Kolkata to NJP, an auto to the bus station and from there a lokal bus to Gorubathan. The bus dropped us at Gorubathan main crossing and from there we knew we had to walk a bit. We relied on Google Maps and basically just walked towards the Petrichor-icon. After about 20min there was a sign, so we turned right and followed it. From there on it was a steep and winding road and I instantly regretted the urban lifestyle I had adopted during the past months, basically consisting of sitting and not using my body. 20min later I was out of breath, but quickly forgot about it when I took a look at the beautiful landscape and the panoramic views surrounding us.
*What awaited us*
Petrichor is a place of peace and calm in tune with nature. It consits of a few accomodations, a common ground, an open kitchen, various vegetable beds and plants of all sorts, all combined with stunning panoramic views across the valley. We instantly felt at ease. The accomodations are beautifully crafted, with a lot of love and commitment. We had booked the "Simplicity" room, a two storey house entirely built from recycled materials. The beds were large and comfy, the blankets kept us warm and the decorations filled us with wonder and amazement. The very large and comfortable bathroom was detached and right next to the house. We still rave over the amazing home-cooked food, I strongly recommend trying it!
*What to do*
Gorubathan is a dreamy and calm place. If you're looking for adventure, I'm sure you can go on amazing treks or book tours to nearby attractions. As our only aim was to be close to nature, we decided to intuitively discover the surroundings. We bathed in a beautiful river, strolled through tea plantations, wandered beneath palm trees, found time to exchange thoughts, had chai, discovered a Tibetan stupa, enjoyed the views and had a pleasant time. We spent the evenings playing cards and reading books, before happily falling asleep.
Overall, we had a wonderful time at Petrichor and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is open to immersing themselves into nature, without expecting to constantly be entertained. Sweta and Sidhartha are lovely hosts and great people who inspired us a lot and I would love to come back one day and stay for longer to learn more about permaculture.

‘OMG!! We have to walk around 2km slop!!’- it was my first expression after I leave the car.. Then we started to walk with a bitter mind and finally reach at the reception of 40min walking.. That moment due to my tiredness I could not feel the sweetness and uniqueness of this place.. I really don't know at which time I was fallen in love with this farm..
The host, Sweta and her family members are very friendly, familiar, helpful and kind hearted person..
Sometimes I feel that I can not fully explore that place....

Spent two weeks here with a friend. Petrichor is in a beautiful location with panoramic views across the valley. We were volunteers whilst here and had a volunteer dormitory which was clean and comfortable with an attached bathroom and Mosquito nets. Sweta and Sidhartha are wonderful hosts and made us feel most welcome. The site itself felt very safe; even when the hosts went away for a couple of nights. The food was great and we consider ourselves very fortunate to have been able to have had this opportunity to fully experience life in this region of India.

The name fascinated me and I later on discovered what it meant..the fresh smel lof earth after the rains and yes, Petrichor is just that,If you enjoy staying in a village farm and would like to participate in farming activities and enjoy eating farm produce then this is the right place for you. Since we were a family with young children who wouldn't be interested in the above mentioned activities, we just had a meal in their restaurant and left not before promising to myself that I shall be back soon!!

Petrichor Farm really is a place which you must experience in your lifetime. Not only is it set in the most beautiful surroundings, but the work which Sweta and Siddharth have done to have this place as a fully functioning farm is just so inspirational. I stayed here for one week with my father and we used the farm as a place to relax and have some down time. We thoroughly enjoyed being surrounded by the nature and learning about the farm and how it operates. The food which is prepared is simply delicious with all ingredients being from the farm (or local rice) and there was always a lot of variety so you would never go hungry. The farm is a very special place and Sweta is a very knowledgable woman who is very interesting to listen to. I hope to be back at the farm sooner rather than later and couldn't recommend it enough!

My partner and I had such a special time at Pretichor Farm recently. The environment that owners Sweta & Siddharth have created allowed us as volunteers to feel connected to nature as well as connected to the local Gorubhutan Community. We left feeling inspired to live a more green and mindful life and we took away so much new permaculture knowledge. We were given the space and time to enjoy all aspects of the farm which really allowed us to absorb ourselves in the experience. It was our favourite experience in wonderfully diverse India and we would recommend the farm to any other earthlings interested in seeing a quieter more serene India and who enjoy involving themselves in a community/village cultural exchange.

Have known Sweta for many years, but finally got the opportunity to visit Petrichor last weekend for a Yoga and Detox mini-retreat. Unfortunately we couldn't stay for the whole five days, but the weekend retreat was incredible. Arwa, the yoga instructor and nutrition consultant was fantastic, the organic food right from the farm was wonderful, and the simple, village life meant that we felt amazingly invigorated and refreshed, even after a short stay.
Will definitely be back soon, and hopefully for a longer visit.

Hi ,
Am planning to visit your esteemed property in mid August. My aged father will be accompanying me along with my mother and wife. My queries are listed below :
1. How much far it is (your property) from New Mal Junction Railway Station ?
2. Does car reaches directly inside your property premises... My Aged Father won't be able to walk much... hence the ask ?
3. Does the road condition stay motorable during rainy season ?
Waiting for your acknowledgement , post which I can book the same. Also advise , if you want to highlight from your end.
Regards,
Aritra
