The website says tours begin on the hour, so we planned to spend an hour touring the home, but the tour guide took two plus hours and seemed to answer every question he had ever been asked about the items and photos in the home. We spent a half an hour in the living room before moving to the next room. It would have been enjoyable if he had been more respectful of our time. We were not able to get to the Mitchell Bragg house which was also only open one day out of the four we were in town. It is just very frustrating as we didn’t want to be rude by walking out early and before we had seen the whole house. Next time I visit a house, I think I will ask what time the tour ends. I usually enjoy seeing old houses, but the best thing about this one was the people we met on the tour who shared our frustration. We were all furtively looking at our watches and checking to see if anyone else had a mind to move on whenever he asked if there were any more questions….

A lot of history here and we’ll worth the time. The guide did an excellent job describing everything. We arrived not on the hour when the next tour was going to start. But since no tour was in progress at the time, they went ahead and started a tour just for us. Very thoughtful.

This is one of the best kept secrets about historic Mobile. The tour guide, Kathryn, was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about telling the story of the four families that inhabited this house before its acquisition by the city in 1955. This is a must if you are interested in history, in Alabama, or the South.

Beautiful home. The guide was very informative and answered everyone’s questions. Photography is allowed without flash. Highly recommend!

This was a stop well rewarded. The grounds and home are inspiring and the docents are very knowledgeable and receptive to questions. They also offer a look into the past occupants life’s and what it was like to experience life during those times. Recommend to anyone interested in Mobile Al. past.

As visitors from the UK much of the information about the house given to us by the “Belles” today was new and fascinating. The furnishings are well maintained and the guides interest and enthusiasm for her job was infectious. We loved it.

Going through the house, one is constantly left with the sense that 'the money ran out' or at least that it was very tight and the owner had ambitions beyond his pocketbook. It is a pleasant house and our your tour guide did a yeoman's job, but there were perhaps a few too many people for the space (only hourly tours and the house itself is not huge - the illusion of the porches. / certainly living space in Mobile, but not 'rooms'. Situated in a very pretty neighborhood - indeed all of historic Mobile is is pretty and well worth booking your abnb in/around the area rather than a hotel - just not quite up to the level of some other local homes, despite its unique architecture.

Great example of more urban Greek Revival antebellum architecture. The historical society has done a stupendous job restoring and representing life from antebellum times linearly right up until the home was donated to the city of Mobile in 1955. For history buffs, there are many examples of architectural features or artifacts you just do not see in any other historical homes. A must see to add to your knowledge and awe.

I went by after looking at the website, but there was an event so no tours were offered. I took a few pictures of the exterior. I would recommend calling before you go. There is a small parking lot at the end of the street.

It was closed. There was nothing on the webpage to tell us that it was going to be closed, and we arrived at 10 a.m. There was a young lady there who was working there and so was as confused as we were, but texted someone who said it was closed because of the weather. What weather? There was rain forecast, but what better day to go to a museum house? I would check before I go next time!
