The Monroeville Courthouse was used as the model for the courthouse scenes in To Kill A Mockingbird...there are displays about the movie, Harper Lee, and her neighbor Truman Capote. Worth a visit if you loved the book or movie.

We decided to visit this museum because we have read books from both of the well known authors associated with this city and we have seen the movies associated with some of their books. It was interesting to see some of the antiques in the law office especially the old radio, typewriter and dictaphone. The high light is the courtroom and you can go to the balcony for a special view. The city is not close to an interstate but it is worth the detour for a visit.

To Kill A Mockingbird was filmed there. Totally worth visiting. $5 per person. Everyone is so nice. Gift shop too! 😊 Building is so unique and you can stand where Gregory Peck stood while defending his client. You can also go upstairs where Scout watched her Dad. Such a great place. After we were done we grabbed some food at the Court House Cafe in the square . Yummy.

We took a side trip to the museum on our way through Alabama. The cost was $5. It is $5 well spent.
The information and the history of the courthouse alone are worth it.

The Courthouse is beautifully preserved. It doesn't take too long to go through and read the materials (I'd guess an hour to an hour and a half), but if you are lucky you can talk to Rabun (Ray-bun) Williams! He is chalk full of knowledge and can tell you a lot of historical nods Haper Lee gave in the book!

I am a huge TKAM fan and visiting Monroeville has been in my bucket list. It didn’t disappoint! The museum docent was so kind and we had the whole place to ourselves, I assume because of the pandemic. Masks are required and we felt safe. We got great pictures and learned so much about Harper Lee (and Truman Capote as well). It was a great day walking through the museum and around the grounds.

Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy the literary history of To Kill a Mockingbird and Truman Capote. Not sure if I would go out of the way without an interest in these novels/authors. We are glad we made a trip to see the courthouse.

Visiting the Courthouse and Museum is like a walk back in time. The downtown square bustles with traffic. I didn't expect a Tuesday afternoon to be so busy. It's only $5.00 to tour the 1903 courthouse and museum exhibits. It is well worth the fee. If you only have a passing knowledge of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, you will learn all you need to know. If you are a devotee of the book, then this is home ground. Standing in the courtroom is being transported in the pages of the book. Take a trip around the downtown streets on the sculpture trail and discover 10 Alabama writers you might not know much about.

The Lee and Capote exhibits are in the well preserved Monroe County Courthouse. The exhibits are nicely presented using easily readable text and clean photographs. The docent relayed first hand experiences with Harper Nellie Lee. It was all very nicely done.

What are the dates of the play, time of performances, and where to buy tickets?

They have a website dedicated to the play. The cast is named "The Mockingbird Players" which are the local townspeople. They are pretty amazing. I believe they are done with performing it right now. They do it about six weeks.

We'll be traveling from New Orleans to Montgomery by bus. The bus makes a stop in Evergreen. Is there any public transportation from Evergreen to near the Old Monroe County Courthouse?

No, I'm sure there's no public transportation available. Good luck finding a taxi in Evergreen.

You will need to check with the Museum staff. I do not work there and don't know the hours.

Hi, I was hoping to visit Monroeville and the courthouse museum on route to Selma. How long would you advise spending at the museum? Is there parking nearby?
Kind regards
Sarah

It won't take long to walk around, I would say maybe an hour tops. There are local shops across the street to visit also. Plenty of parking around the square, and it's free.
