Great experience with Prospector John and his crew! The boat trip to his claim on beautiful Kenai Lake was its own excursion. We learned to use a sluice and pan, enjoyed the beautiful scenery and heard some good stories. Came back with a little bit of gold and Afew garnets

Both John and his wife were extremely responsive and flexible. The trip my kids took was a great experience. The boat trip was wonderful in and of itself.

Miner Mike was a great tour guide. They taught us how to pan for gold, the very basics and every found gold.

Prospector John and Mike were wonderful, we took a boat ride to the site , we were provided with waders and taught how to dredge for gold , and the process after finding it. This was a wonderful adventure and we would highly recommend it.

A real prospector with great character that can provide a learning experience and entertaining opportunity to pan for Alaskan gold. You wont get rich (of course) but you will have fun and learn alot.

Great time with Mike leading the way. Started out rafting down the Kenai river and dropped off at a creek. Then a great back country hike to the claim site. Trekking through the woods and creeks was awesome and always having to keep an eye out for bear and moose. Beautiful spot on the creek with King Salmon swimming all around. Sluicing for gold and panning it out was the goal of the trip but the journey was worth the trip alone. Found around a gram of gold so not bad for a days effort.

Kids loved panning for gold - they were given great instruction, never rushed. Found quite a lot of specs of gold and a few garnets. It took two of them about 45 min to get through the regular bucket. Staff were very friendly. The store had a lot of souvenirs at decent prices. There is a café/bar/restaurant on premises with good food/decent prices. At the end kids also looked for gems in one of the gem bags - younger kids loved that more than gold as it was easier.

Thanks for your kind words...we have a lot of fun teaching and love watching the yells and oohs and aahs of finding gold and you are right the young pre teens usually like the gem bags.. We build our own gem bags so we know whats in them .

My family of 6 made reservations on line to pan for gold with Prospector John. We had a great time. The process took about 90 minutes and included sluicing for gold, then panning. The kids were excited to see bits of gold in the sluice box and more when they panned the material from the carpet in the sluice box. Prospector John and his staff were so friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. Each one of us walked away with a little vial of gold flakes- a wonderful souvenir of Alaska.
