Our family had an amazing experience learning to surf with Nawir’s surf school ! It was the first time surfing for both of my daughters (ages 6 and 11) and for me. My husband had more advanced lessons. We each had a private instructor. I’ve always feared the open sea, so I was nervous, but Yudi (Nawir’s colleague) was incredibly patient and made me feel safe and comfortable. My girls had so much fun learning the basics too and their instructors made it fun and safe for them. We’ve all found a new sense of confidence and joy in surfing. Whether you're a total beginner like us or more advanced, Nawir’s surf school and his incredible instructors have the skills and patience to guide you. We can’t wait to get back on the waves!

My instructor, Nawir, was absolutely fantastic in my one-to-one lesson as a complete beginner. In one lesson he managed to help me get over my fear and stand up on the board! He was patient, incredibly supportive and made me laugh throughout. Excellent customer service, and overall brilliant experience. Wish I could have stayed longer for more lessons!

Enjoying surfing was my biggest surprise of 2024. I came to Bali 2 times before and I was always terrified to even try one lesson. I thought this was too extreme and I would end up getting injured. But one day I decided that I cannot live in Batu Bolong and not experience it at least once. So I found Nawir on google, he had the best reviews, so I chose him. And it was a great decision, because surprise-surprise, I ended up addicted to surfing. After one lesson with Nawir, I had 25 more with him :)
Nawir was professional and chill at the same time. I felt completely safe every time we surfed. I caught many waves already during my first lesson (which I really did not expect)
From being able to barely stand up on a 9.5 soft top, I went to a 7-foot board. From being exhausted after 30 minutes in the water, to not wanting to get out of the ocean after 2 hours.
Nawir always stayed calm and patient, and he is very fun as a person as well. There was lots of laughter, in between waves and during them too ;)
I am lucky that I ended up with him as my first surf instructor, because now I love being in the ocean and can’t wait to be back on the board. Nawir really puts safety first, and it doesn’t take anything away from the fun. He as well taught me how to be safe in the water by myself. And he really knows where the best spots are, somehow even when there was a huge human traffic around, he managed to find a place with less people. I felt like he knew some secret.
I learned to paddle, pop up, turn left and right, navigate between people and many other things. Nawir explained a lot of things about the waves, tides, the ocean, etc.
I had tons of insights about my functioning in life when I saw how I was reacting to the waves. Surfing had a direct effect on my daily life: I became calmer, more down-to-earth, more relaxed. It even made me a better driver, as I learned to respond quickly to external conditions without panicking.
Nawir made dealing with danger effortless and playful.
He has great intuitive understanding of your character and adjusts the experience to it.
During the first lesson he said something that I always remembered: “I don’t teach people surfing, I teach them patience”. At first it seemed strange to me, because I thought that extreme sport doesn’t imply much patience. But then I saw how one of the most interesting things in surf is that you have to manage opposite states at the same time: extreme tension and relaxation, you have to paddle strongly and then once you pop up, you have to proceed in a very flexible way, to “be one with the wave”. This is what happens in many life processes and if you cannot relax at the right moment, you will “fall”. Nawir combines these qualities in his teaching: it is challenging yet light.
During my stay Nawir took me on a surf trip to Medewi, which is a little surf paradise. The waves there are really long and there are much less people than in Canggu. It is very peaceful and authentic, just you and the ocean. If you have time, I recommend to spend a few days there.
So, surfing with Nawir was literally a life changing experience. If you have any doubts, to try it or not, don’t, just try it and you won’t regret it! He is the best instructor you can find.

The team were incredibly attentive. As a complete beginner, one of us needed a lot of support and they were absolutely fantastic. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much what we did. This was mainly due to the incredible team. Thank you again, you made our trip! Gemma & Tom - UK

Had a really great experience with this surf school. Both Yudi and Nawir were great, i felt like I learnt so much from them and improved within a few days. I had 2 lessons first and then came back for another 3 days as it was so good with them. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a surf school in Canggu - will be back hopefully!

I stayed in Canggu for a little over three weeks and did several surf sessions with Nawir. We had a lot of fun, he was super kind and focused on helping me improve my surfing skills. He is a great instructor and I can recommend him 100% :)

I've taken surf lessons before in other countries and last week in Canggu, but my five lessons with Nawir were the best I've had. This is because he tailors the lessons to the individual. For me, I've had a bad experience in the past that has made me terrified of the ocean. Nawir was patient, and spent time getting me acclimated to being in the ocean without panicking. This included practicing swimming in the ocean, diving under waves, and ocean safety. By the end of the 5 lessons, I am able to paddle out and catch waves without PTSD.

Last week I took surfing lessons for the first time at Nawir. He explains everything very clearly and lets you practice it right away. First on the beach and then in the water. As a result, things went fairly smoothly for me and I was able to surf the first few meters after trying a few waves.
If I were to take surf lessons again, I would definitely ask Nawir again!

I’ve had 18 lessons with Nawir over four months. I’ve moved from a soft top to 8” to 7”5 to 7”.
The gradual board change would sometimes go back up depending on the conditions of the ocean that day so you don’t feel out of your depth.
It took me a long time to find an instructor I trusted and felt safe with on the waves.
There’s a good balance between being challenged and not being pushed beyond what is bearable.
I’m provided feedback in the ocean with tangible affirmations and micro adjustments
without being overwhelmed.
There have been sessions where the waves have been really big and rough, but I’ve not been worried because I’m taught how to navigate the wave when it’s coming at me, which way to paddle, when to stop or push harder, landmarks on the shore to find a channel, and if I’m getting super washed, Nawir will make sure he’s close by to get me out when I’m tired.
Nawir is also aware of others in the water and I’ve seen him support new surfers (after checking to see I’m safe) when their instructors are not close by. I’ve seen him speak gently to others in the ocean when they’re clearly freaked out, and the way he’s respected by other instructors and long time surfers is commendable.
It’s made me a better surfer and built my confidence while learning life lessons along the way in comparison to previous experiences where instructors are there to catch their own waves, unaware when you’re struggling, or hit on you and make you uncomfortable.
It’s a game changer for me because the absence of the negatives enhances my love for surfing, makes me keep striving and coming back for more (even on the really hard days where it’s been raining, the waves are insane, I’m hit by sets while trying to paddle back to the channel). Megs appreciative and grateful to be on this surfing journey with Nawir and also shout out to Andy.

Fantastic surf school. My family and friends took lessons in July from Nawir and his team. Amazing experience with great tuition from a fabulous team. We were well looked after and learned lots.

Hatte eine Surfstunde gemeinsam mit meiner Freundin gebucht und zum Erstaunen hatten wir auch zwei Coaches für jeden einen. Namir und Pat waren so super drauf, haben alles sehr gut erklärt bekommen. Equipment war sehr gepflegt. Wie würden jeder Zeit wieder eine Stunde bei denen beiden buchen, da sie zu jedem Zeitpunkt Spaß und Freude vermittelt haben, was es auch macht. Der Preis ist wirklich hervorragend für das, was die bei einem alles beibringen. Vielen vielen Dank ihr zwei 👍🏽
