The area around Ricketts Point is popular but the beaches often have sea weed and the area back of the foreshore has facilities but it is not well developed or maintained. Mind you it was better than nowhere on a sunny September Melbourne day.

Named after Captain Thomas Ricketts, an early resident who had a house nearby this area is quite different to the rest of the coastline. It has shallow water, sandstone reefs and rock pools and ideal for various marine life. Away from the beach there walking paths, picnic area and loads of expensive 24/7 parking at $ 6 per hour. Good but could be better.

Nice location to have a walk and a swim with your dog. Gets a bit busy sometimes. Hard to find a parking spot in tge weekends in summer.

Had breakfast at Ricketts Point in the cafe.

This is a great place to get close to nature, close to Melbourne. On our most recent trip, we were blessed with 3 pelicans and a swan that gracefully floated around while we explored the rock pools and collected shells.
The kids braved the cold water, fully clothed in Winter as they explored from rock pools to sandbanks.
We all warmed up with hot chocolates at the cafe afterwards.

Grab a snorkel and flippers and see the lovely Port Phillip Bay Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary. Water is not deep unless you travel quite far out. I live here and love it.

Walk along the coastal path or the sandy shore. Enjoy the rock pools and coastal trees and shrubs- great spots for photos. Fabulous views around each corner. Enjoy food at the teahouse, plenty of parking at a cost, free for Bayside residents or if you park on Beach Road. Respect the marine life and leave it happily residing in the shallow water. Great for all ages.

Outcrop of Rockpools and a lovely place to sit and relax and wonder. Wear some footwear that can get wet and has grip.

Even if you are not into swimming, the beach along the marine park is a nice place to walks and the cafe offers some great snacks. Large car park (at a cost) there is some free road parking but it fills up quickly. When the tide is low, you can walk out on the rocks and have a look in the many rock pools, when the tide comes in put on your snorkel and paddle around looking at the fish. It is safe enough that even small children will be paddling around when the sea is calm.
