Verrassend natuurreservaat net buiten Durban. Als je van de snelweg komt, moet je een zijweg nemen om bij het nature reserve te komen. Je kunt een leuke trail lopen van ongeveer een uur. Veel kleine krabjes en vogels.

We were fortunate enough to go and explore the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve. It was myself, my parents (both in their 60's) and my two children who are 9 and 6. We opted for the guided tour and had three very knowledgeable, well presented, well-spoken guides. We walked through the mangroves, learned about the different types of trees and crabs that were in the reserve and even got to feed the crabs. It was an amazing experience that we all loved! I never knew anything like that existed in Durban.
The only downside about the experience is that you have to walk along the motorway in order to access the Nature Reserve. It is very safe, with a dedicated footpath, but it would be better if there were another way to access the entrance. Other than that, I would highly recommend a trip to the mangroves. The staff were great and it is an easy walk. The whole thing took about 2 hours. The Nature reserve is also very well maintained, which was a pleasure to see.

This is a truly amazing experience and very accessibly located on the edge of the Durban City Centre. It is difficult to find the entrance so we drove around a couple of times until my daughter spotted a very small board which indicated the entrance along a long driveway to the beach. If you're lost, the entrance is in the vicinity of the Durban North Hypermarket. But once there we were pleasantly surprised at the current conservation work as I last visited in the mid 1980s. We booked a guide in advance so we had Bongani take us on the tour. As its winter we saw less giant snails but the crabs, mud flappers and other creatures were amazing. We went when the tide was out so we saw the different types of crabs in their burrows and dashing out to pull fallen leaves into their burrows. Bongani also explained and showed us the different types of mangroves and how they disperse their seeds. An absolutely wonderful experience and it's also FREE! but you have to book in advance.

C'est un petit parc naturel, préservé, en bord de plage, en pleine ville de Durban, à 100m de la voie rapide.
C'est un habitat naturel pour les oiseaux de lagune et de mangrove. A voir : crabes de palétuviers, nombreuses essences de bord de mer.
La visite à pied se fait sur un romantique ponton de bois. SI vous avez de la patience et de la chance, vous photographierez des martins-pêcheurs royaux et autres oiseaux peuplant cet habitat naturel préservé.
cette visite a été possible sur les recommandations du Durban Green Corridor qui a organisé tout mon séjour dans un contexte eco-responsable et durable.
