Lois and Paula are both excellent massage therapists. My husband Joe and I were both busting Sedona for the week and on a whim decided to get a massage. We wanted a place that could accommodate both of us at the same time. We really needed a massage after a day of golfing the day before. We called this place after reading the fantastic reviews on Yelp. When we found out how reasonable the rate was for a one hour massage we were thrilled. There are places right in town that want twice what Paula and Lois charged. Paula was working when we called. Lou's decided to cone in specially for us on her day off. Talk about customer service. We both got deep tissue massages and we had specific areas that had knots and needed extra work. We loved how attentive both the massage therapists were. There was no small talk at all which we loved. They just let us relax with the perfect setting: the soft soothing music, the gentle water fall, the perfect amount of candles etc etc. they both did such amazing work on specific areas that we walked out there feeling fabulous. We both even fell asleep. It was fantastic.

Afterglow: GEM of a massage, for massage clients in the know.
ต.ค. ค.ศ. 2015 • คู่รัก
Woo-hoo! Jackpot!
First I researched. I can be quite OCD about my massages: heck, if I'm going to spend my time on another's table, they better at least be as good/educated/aware, as I am.
A brochure at the visitor's bureau confirmed it: go to AfterGlow Massage. I called.
"Could I get an appointment the next morning?" No problem!
Fastest/most professional call back, after a few other earlier in the week more, a-hem, new age-y responses that had me hesitating on getting a massage. While I am very energy/new age educated - my massage needs are firmly rooted in 'impress me' - because I do this for a living too.

Staying at the Inn literally a block away, I walked to the lovely lit, ambient massage clinic a stone's throw from Bell Rock.
Denis met me with a big smile, and a great radio voice. He's a well educated practitioner with easily as many certifications in various bodywork modalities as me - although I have been at it a few years longer than he has:) That is to say, he enjoyed a few successful careers before studying healing work, and he is a few decades my senior - which makes him all the more enjoyable to share a wise conversation with.
I filled out a 'wee questionnaire to help both me, and Denis, know what my concerns/needs for the massage were. It's a good sign when there's an 'intake' form involved. To me, it signals a pro environment/intention/understanding of the session, reverence for the task at hand.

The massage: hot stones, reflexology, Swedish/western/cranial sacral, medical QiGong, Reiki, myofascial release therapy, essential oils therapy ...these terms mean nothing/little to non-therapists, and everything to we-who-study-for-years-how-to-make-folks-feel-better. Denis is a therapist's therapist. Sedona therapists ought to be seeing Denis on a regular basis. Heck, they should consider studying with him.

Want to talk during your massage? Denis will ask you of you'd prefer silence. Since I rarely find myself in the company of one who speaks all my [healing] languages, I was happy to chat through our 60 minutes, especially since I'd started the conversation.
I was happy he asked my preference. Clients often find it very difficult to say the simple words "I'd like to relax deeply into this experience without talking."
Even with that, Denis left some lovely gaps in our conversation for me to relax into unwinding some hiked-out muscles. Trigger points as many would know them by.

Some massages I go deeply into relaxation mode. When I don't, I pay attention to why: the other gifts I'm being offered in the session: spiritual, emotional.
Denis will challenge you to do some of the 'work' to release that which ails you at core levels - and he can meet anyone's place of understanding the how and why and manifestation of these - I'm sure of it.

This kind of work sometimes feels uncomfortable to 'civilians' ...ie: agitation as the memory in the muscles releases, or the very familiar "hey, I want you (therapist) to do the work for me, whilst I continue to do the pain patterns that got me here in the first place - so just do what's familiar/cookie cutter massage to me"...all fleeting thoughts and reactions clients have on the table when a PRO therapist guides them to an excellent place of balance in physical-emotional-spiritual...so let go, trust the process, and get a massage that feeds your spirit, while healing your body.

Denis is a wealth of information and insight. He's a rare find. And, as a bonus, we discussed he and his partner/wife's philosophy of honoring the economics for folks these days: really, great massage prices!! This impressed me: he lives/walks the walk, not some sales talk and a 'bargain' massage.
I'll definitely book sessions with him on return trips to Sedona.

the massage result:
Aaaah! The hiking muscles all got attention, my jaw I didn't know had tightened got loose. Utilizing breathing and focus techniques we un-layered a few intense trouble spots and got me to the place most people want for their massage: bliss, relaxation, grounded-ness, rejuvenation. The sky seemed more blue, and I was SO much more relaxed walking back to get ready for another adventure around Sedona.

Good Restaurant 89 Agave
ก.ย. ค.ศ. 2015 • คู่รัก
89 Agave is in uptown Sedona and we tried it tonight. We were told it was formerly a restaurant called Taos but is now 89 Agave. If you enjoy Mexican food this is a good restaurant. We sat outside under some colorful yellow umbrellas with the beautiful red rocks in the background. Service was very prompt and cheerful. I had the happy hour appetizer which was a cheese and roasted poblano pepper quesadilla served with guacamole and pico de gallo. It was excellent. Hubby has a shredded beef chimichanga with black beans and rice, sour cream and guacamole. It was very good and filling. One Pacifico and one Prickly Pear margarita which were also good. All in all a good dinner in a touristy area.

Excellent massage
ต.ค. ค.ศ. 2012 • เดินทางคนเดียว
I had a very nice massage by Lois Hutchison of Afterglow-very gentle, with a variety of techniques including hot rocks, swedish and energy work. If you want deep tissue you probably want to go with Denis. They have a nice little office ina strip mall in the Village of Oak Creek and offer quite a few different treatments. Prices are much more reasonable than the local "spa's"-you are not paying an extra $40 for a shower! Prices are competitive with your "home" therapist. I highly recommend them if you need your kinks worked out after hiking!
