Gorgeous waterfall. Didn't venture past the main waterfall due to how cold it was, but there's more to do than just see this waterfall. Paid parking here as well as a little restroom and a small shop that sells hot chocolate throughout the day.

Look, I'm a climber and not a bad one, and I recommend not doing this. I read the reviews and decided it looked a little dangerous but I love rock climbing and couldn't resist the temptation to check it out. The other reviews are correct about the approach being super boggy - even with water resistant hiking shoes, my socks got wet. You get there and your shoes are muddy, so even though the foot holds are plentiful, it's nerve wracking. It's high enough that if you fell, you'd be in major trouble, the kind of trouble your travel insurance would not want to pay for. It would be an easy climb if you were roped in and had dry climbing shoes, but honestly it's not cool enough to bother with bringing actual gear. Just skip it.

Stedet kan være svært at finde og er markeret med et af de små blå skilte med skiften "Paradisarhellir". Grusvejen til grotten ligger - når man kommer fra Reykjavik - kort efter afkørslen til færgen til Vestmannaeyjar og på modsatte side. På parkeringspladsen ligger et lille Hvidt hus med blåt tag og en form for fold.
Længst væk fra indkørslen finder du et informationsskilt, hvor du også ser ruten optegnet og hvor du kan klatre over hegnet og begynde ruten over til grotten. Det tager omkring ti minutter, men terrænet er - i marts - smattet og vådt - måske på grund af smeltet sne og de små vandfald ned ad klippevæggen.
Vær opmærksom på, at der kan falde sten ned, så kig op. Desuden er der mange fugle og nogle sidder i grotteåbningen.
For at komme op i grotten, skal du klatre nogle meter op af klippen; med hjælp fra en kæde, der er forsvarligt fastgjort inde i grotten om en stor sten. Selve grotten er måske ikke hele gåturen værd, for et så kort besøg.
Det kunne være sjovere at tage en nat der eller nyde en frokost. Grotten er meget lille og det er nærmere turen derop, der er spændende.
Grotten er et besøg værd, hvis du alligevel er i området og har brug for en pause. Den er ikke værd at køre for.

My wife didn't want to slog the bog so she stayed in the car. After dodging all the sheep droppings and finding the cave I wisely decided to not make the ascent. I was alone and falling 30 feet to the ground would have been bad. The whole area is beautiful around this area and I don't regret making the trek through the bog.

it does take some effort to get to the cave but when you are in it is really beautiful, ask the locals about the stories about the cave

Ja dat hier ooit een vogelvrij verklaarde jaren heeft gewoond is een apart idee. Het is een ruige onherbergzame plek.Hij ligt redelijk dicht bij de weg.

Wasn't sure whether to bother with this after reading a review about needing to be a 'seasoned climber' and tramping across boggy fields etc etc. But... with a 16 yr old son I thought he would like it and I was right. If you are doing route 1 to Seljandfoss (sorry for spelling) and Skoga and you have young adventurers with you then why not. It is about a minute after Seljandsfoss waterfall on the left and is just West of Fit. It is signposted and there is a small car park. Head out of car park on foot over style in right corner and keep heading in that direction for the cliffs. You will not see it until up to the cliff is a lot smaller than I thought. You will need to go up grass slope and over barbed wire fence to the right and you are there. Yes it was a bit boggy too but we both had waterproof walking shoes. There is a chain to use to climb into cave which my son even thought twice about when there was a big gust of wind but of course carried on. He said I would probably not be able to do - but I did and was most rewarded when we got back down to him saying I was "hardcore" - I was quite pleased with myself :)

The whole family was excited to be visiting a real outlaws' hideout as that's the information provided by guidebooks, however it turned out to be hugely disappointing. We parked at the car park just off route one GPS N63° 35.809 W 19°58.181. We knew there was a path leading to the cave from behind the sheep pens in the car park, and lo and behold there was. We were prepared to walk the kilometre or so to the cave. What we did not bank on, was the path traversing sheep country which consisted of extremely boggy land and we ended up taking great detours off the path not to wet our ankles. When we finally arrived at the foot of the incline which is steep and around 100 metres long we scaled this, jumped over a barbed wire fence and finally got to the area below the cave which in my opinion is impossible to climb up to, unless you are a seasoned climber or very fit. The cave mouth is about one story above the ground and the only way vertically up, is via a chain. None of us could manage to climb it even though the rock face looked promising with hundreds of footholds. Sadly we had to return back to the car park via boggy land.
